Pets are Family too

Pets are a hard thing to let go of. I have had to put my two cats to sleep yesterday and the kids are so hurt and it breaks a parent's heart to have to be put in this position. I had to do it as the cats contracted a disease that couldn;t be cured and because I am with them 24 hours a day as well, it broke my heart when I had to take them away from my kids and put them down. They become so much a part of your family that it is like a death to you as if one of your own children had died too. I said I wouldn;t get attached to them as I didn;t want to have my heart broke if anything happened to them. Guess what? They wormed their cute little faces into my heart and now my heart is hurting like I killed them and the guilt is hard to take and I know a pet isn;t something you can;t replace like a kid. You can always get another one, people say. Not for me as when I love something or someone I love with all my heart and it always hurts me. i know some people don;t form attachments to animals and i respect that and wish i could be like that too, but I am built differently, and I hurt anyways. My kid's disabilities don;t make things any easier as they don;t understand why the cats got sick and why Mom had to put their cherished pets down to avoid any further suffering for them as it is the humane thing to do. For animal lovers like me, I know you know how hard it is and how much it hurts. I would give anything not to have been in this position but what has to be has to be. I hope for anyone else in this position now, will know i appreciate and understand I know exactly what it feels like, and feel your pain as well. Pets aren;t just pets. They are family members as well as they are a part of your everyday life and when they suffer you suffer as well. They bring joy into our lives and bring memories as well and can never be forgotten. That is the way it should be. It is for us.
