16th May Buddha's Birthday

"panchsheel" 5 precepts of Buddha

The 5 precepts are commitments to abstain from killing living beings, stealing, s*xual misconduct, lying and intoxication. Within the Buddhist doctrine, they are meant to develop mind and character to make progress on the path to enlightenment.

These 5 precepts are for everyone, anyone can follow it. If one cannot follow it completely then do as much as you can.

Instead of giving importance to God or Soul, Buddha gave importance to human qualities, gave importance to humanity, gave importance to purity of mind.

Buddha told that worship should be of virtues not of any imagination.

touch effect

our whole body is covered with skin, it is very sensitive for touch.
Touching on different parts of the body produces different feelings in our mind.
Touch helps in healing many diseases also.

Touch is very effective in the mental development of children. If one child gets slapped on the cheek every day and the other child gets kissed on the cheek every day, then there will be a huge difference in the mental development of both.

Bitter truth

Just as a woman is looking for a good man, a man is also looking for a good woman.

Bitter truth: every person in this world is a mixture of goodness and badness, virtues and flaws. Nobody is 100% good and nobody is 100% bad. By the way, every person considers himself good from his point of view.

Goodness is liked by all, due to which man and woman are attracted towards each other. They become so blind in each other's attraction that each other's flaws are not visible, after some time when the passion of attraction subsides,
each other's flaws start showing then breakups happen. So be careful, If you are attracted to someone's goodness, keep in mind that they also have flaws, will you be able to accept their flaws or not?

The ability to accept each other's flaws determines how long the relationship will last.

truth vs belief

Our mind is designed to run on both belief and truth. It is necessary to strike a balance between the two.
Truth is bitter, belief is sweeter. Truth requires logic, belief does not require logic. Truth is an endless process of logic, belief is a full-stop of logic. Truth is workout, belief is rest. Truth requires a brain, belief does not require a brain.

A scientist reaches a truth by applying a lot of logics. Many years later, another scientist proves that truth wrong by applying another logic. In this way the endless process of logic continues in truth.

Everyone believes in Belief according to their own will. For this we twist the truth in favor of our belief.

We cannot always depend on logic alone, nor can we always depend on belief. It is important to keep a balance in both. If both are imbalanced then we will start harming ourselves and each other.

What factors affect the ability to sense right or wrong?

When any emotion inside us becomes intense due to some reason and becomes out of control, then our ability to understand right or wrong gets affected. At that time only things that are favorable to that emotion, seems right.

Well, no emotions (feelings) are bad itself. Every emotion (feeling) has its own importance in life. As long as they are in control, they are good and useful; when they are out of control, they are bad and harmful.

How much do you know yourself?

Just like we stand in front of the mirror everyday to look physically beautiful and look at ourselves, do we do something like that everyday to make ourselves beautiful from inside (character, behavior, etc)?

Can true love make you live longer?

Although philosophers, psychologists, artists, and poets have been interested in the nature and origin of passionate love throughout the ages, only in the 1960s have social psychologists begun to systematically investigate its complexity (Berscheid & Hatfield 1969, Hatfield & Rapson 1993, Hatfield & Rapson 2009). And in the last decade did social neuroscientists begin to contribute to a better understanding of passionate love by unraveling its specific network in the human brain (Ortigue et al. 2010 for review). In the present article, we review what social psychologists and social neuroscientists have learned about the complex phenomenon of passionate love, present the most relevant data on human brain network (as shown by electroencephalogram and/or functional magnetic resonance imaging), which is thought to be involved in the physiology of passionate love, and compare the neuroimaging results with other types of love (such as maternal love). Based on recent neuroimaging findings, passionate love does not only activate subcortical brain areas mediating basic emotions, reward or motivation, but also higher-order cortical brain areas that are involved in social cognition, attention, memory, mental associations, and self-representation.
