Shared Wisdom

I would like to share some of the things I've learned about posting on forums. I hope others can benefit from my experience.

It doesn’t matter how clearly and precisely you write, at least half the people who read it will misunderstand it.

It doesn’t matter how meaningless what you write is, there will always be someone who thinks they understand what you mean.

It doesn’t matter how stupid you think you have made yourself sound, someone will always respond to it positively and validate it.

It doesn’t matter how experienced you are at treading fine lines, they will always ban you when you are not expecting it.

More about disused railway tunnels

Embedded image from another site

This is my latest find; isn’t she a beauty? I tracked her down on a recent cycling exploration. As can be seen, the tunnel has been blocked, but I can’t find any information on what is being prevented from getting out. If this has wetted your appetite, and you would like to know more about the fascinating world of disused railway tunnels, I have included a suggested reading list.

The Truth About Pumpkins

Most people have no idea of the evil that dwells within a pumpkin, although any non-American who has eaten pumpkin pie may well have suspected it. Its flesh is that of the Devil, and its seeds are the seeds of damnation. Remember that the next time you come to fill your bird feeder. Never put a pumpkin outside your door, you may forget it's there and trip over it. God hates pumkins: verse something or other somewhere in the Bible clearly tells us that pumpkins are an abomination upon the face of anybody who puts one over their head. Jesus tells us that whenever we encounter a pumpkin, we must cast it down upon the ground with mighty force, and stamp upon it for good measure.

Give me a woman

There are certainly things that women seem unable to do as well as men, but there are also things that women do better than men. This morning I experienced an example of female superiority.

I have always been phobic about injections, they terrify me. Apart from local anesthetic at the dentist's -which doesn't seem quite the same- I have not allowed anyone to stick a needle in me since I was a child. It wasn't easy for me to make myself have the Covid jab, my fear of the needle took a great deal of overcoming. In the event, I hardly felt a thing. It was much easier when I went for the second one, and again, it was completely painless. I went for the booster jab this morning, and when the needle went in, it stung like Hell.

My first two jabs were administered by women, but my third, the one that hurt, was given to me by a man. I know that 3 is much too small a number to be statistically significant, but it's good enough for me. Women are better at giving injections, and that's official as far as I'm concerned.

Leftist ot Liberal?

Which of these words do you like to say the most? They are both very popular words, as can be seen by the number of threads with at least one in its title. But if you could only choose one, which would it be? Which one could you simply not live without. Is it more satisfying to call someone who thinks your views are insane a leftist or a liberal? Which one causes the most offence?

But I want them both, Mommy. crying

Who do you trust?

Not everything from the MSM can be trusted, and even less of what the government says can be trusted, I readily admit that. Apart from the odd instance though, they tend not to go beyond certain boundaries. They are accountable, and liable to embarrassment, discredit and judicial sanction when they are found out. And they often get found out. So, yes, some scepticism is called for when it comes to the media and the government, but it needs to be kept in proportion. Any government that depends on the democratic process to put or keep it in power simply cannot afford the risk of being discredited to the point of making itself unelectable.

Independent political movements and influencers are not subject to the same accountability. They can say pretty much what they like without fear of punishment, and it has to be said that this lack of restraint has emboldened some of them to come out with some very bizarre claims. The trouble is, the implausibility of these claims seems to go unquestioned by the very same people who seem to find even the most reasonable information that comes from the MSM unbelievable.

Just because you don't trust the establishment does not mean that every crackpot who comes out with an alternative narrative is telling you the truth.

The BBC might not be the paragon of truth and impartiality that I would like to think it is, but it's probably as close as we can expect to get to those ideals. And I'm sure it values them a damn sight more than the likes of Alex Jones and David Icke do.

There's never an exorcist around when you need one

Evil, evil, evil, everywhere you look. It's all around us, everywhere. I can't walk down the street without tripping over Satanists and homosexual predators. Where did they all come from? I thought we had enough on our plate with the leftie Liberal commie snowflakes baying at the door, but now somebody's opened the gates of Hell, and not a godamned exorcist in sight. uh oh

Something I've often wondered

If all the men who, upon seeing an atractive woman walk by, have said to their companions something along the lines of, "I'd like to give her a good seeing to", were given the oportunity to fulfil that wish, I wonder how many of those women would afterwards consider themselves to have been well seen to. Not too many is my guess. hmmm

Let’s Ban It

It’s about time we did away with science. People are always wanting to know how things work. Then off they go to their laboratories to do experiments, which lead to discoveries, which lead to more questions and more experiments, and yet more discoveries. We will soon know so much stuff that we won’t have any room left in our brains for it all.

Knowing too much about how the Universe works undermines our appreciation and need for God. At least once every week, people would put on their best clothes and congregate together to thank God for the beautiful flowers and all the birds that sing, but now the processes of biological evolution get all the credit for it. How uplifting is that?

Thank you God for giving us the atom, and all the wonderful particles that dwell within. It just doesn’t sound right, does it? We shouldn’t even know about atoms. It’s not our place to know about atoms.

Medical science is probably the worst. What’s the point of praying for your loved ones when some know-it-all doctor can just come along, prescribe something, and make them better? There was a time when all a doctor could do was scratch his head, attach a few leeches to you, and maybe wrap you in vinegar and brown paper if it was something really serious. All you could do was hope for the best but know not to expect it. Then you would get prayed for, and whatever the outcome, it was fine, because it was God’s will.

Even God’s patience has limits. Every time we figure out how to cure a disease, God has to create another one to take its place. How long before he gets so fed up that he throws the most terrible of incurable diseases at us to teach us a damn good lesson. Just think of all the things that used to kill, disable or disfigure us, that are now no more than a slight inconvenience. Who is going to turn to God and wait for days or weeks to find out how merciful he’s going to be when they can just pop down to the chemist’s -or drug store- and pick up something that will have them right as rain in no time?

We have gone too far; it is time to stop looking to science to fulfil all our wants and needs. Unless we go back to putting all our hopes and wishes into prayer again, and once more learn to live with disappointment, humanity will find itself wandering off into a spiritual wilderness, albeit in a better state of health.

Am I awake yet????

The answer has usually been yes whenever I have asked myself this question, although how many times I have asked it in my sleep I couldn't say. So, anyway, whenever I have thought myself to be awake, I have always treated it as a sign that I am awake, and the facts that I have had my senses about me and been capable or rational thought are things that I have always considered to be supporting evidence for my conclusion. But now I find that there is a school of thought that says you have to be a completely witless crackpot to be properly awake. This has turned my whole concept of wakefulness on it's head, and I don't know what to think any more.

I think I will need to sleep on it. sleep

An unfamiliar term

I inadvertently came across an unfamiliar term the other day that both shocked and intrigued me. That term was, “internet shill”.

I would certainly not call myself a man of the world, nor do I consider myself particularly “street wise”, but neither did I think I was as innocent and naive as it appears I am. When I saw what an internet shill was, I could hardly believe there could be such a thing. This is a description:

An Internet shill is someone who promotes something or someone online for pay without divulging that they are associated with the entity they shill for.
A shill might create a Facebook or Twitter account, set up a blog or simply comment through these and other channels, such as discussion forums. The purpose is to artificially improve the social perception of the entity shilled for. Shills promote companies, products, public figures and viewpoints for profit, while pretending to have no motivation for doing so other than personal belief. Alternatively, they sometimes denigrate someone or something, such as a political viewpoint or a competitor’s product, that is in conflict with the entity they serve.

Now what sort of person would be so lacking in integrity that they could do this? What sort of lying ratbag bastard could prostitute himself in this despicable way? I’m still not sure that I believe there are such people, and I know I don’t want to believe it. Am I too trusting; do I have too much faith in my fellow man?
