Loss in the family.

Could be a men/women topic, but perhaps lots of overlap. All six siblings got to talk a good deal at family dinner/breakfasts after Mom's funeral Mass and interment. Much deeper chats than usual, especially with great eulogy by youngest sister, highlighting humor and strength of our mother, who left us gently in mid nineties. Have been getting great cooperation in my role as executor of the estate. Oddly, it's leading to more closeness and revelations among us all. I've heard this from others, but sometimes I hear of further alienations, especially over assets, and old wounds---real or often merely perceived.

People come together in hard times. But that's the point, if you're glad they're dead it's not a hard time. I suppose the worst scenario is to have died wealthy and played favourites with a family where none of them love you, I guess you'd just leave it all to the cats.
Yes, CC. That would be an awful scenario. But it happens often that many die estranged from family. And leaving things to cats, beyond modest care for their remaining years, is OK, but with so much need in the world, the above and beyond could go to charity for humans, or helpful institutions, some of which could be for animals as well.
You're unusually lucky in your family - which is perhaps a testament to your mother. Assets and old grudges tear most families apart.

From what you've said your mother slipped away at peace but there's still loss in losing a parent, even one who had a longer innings than most.

Sorry for your loss.hope you will always remain close and together.
I'm very sorry for your loss as well but hopefully it is comforting to know she slipped away at peace. It's wonderful all the siblings got along too.
