Don’t Fight Insanity With Insanity

100 people died in car accidents yesterday in the US and 8,000+ were injured. IN ONE DAY.

Did this make the headlines? Does it EVER make the headlines although it repeats every single day 24/7/365?

Are the Democrat politicians tripping all over themselves in a rush to get on camera all over the media broken down and wailing their phony tears trying to show how much more compassionate they are than everyone else and proclaiming how much they grieve for the families of the car victims and demanding a ban on cars?

Why not?

When you have a country with 350 million people in it, shit happens. There is a tiny percentage of crazy people and there is nothing that can be done about it. Turning the country upside down, self-flagellating, using these rare events to score political points and taking away the rights of 350 million US citizens because a handful of people die every year in mass shootings is as insane as the acts of the sick people who perpetrate these crimes. Don’t fight insanity with insanity.

ACCIDENT that is the word, but gunning folk on mass is no accident. two different shades of grey
Accident or no accident, when your family member is dead, they are still dead.
True that is sad and when a plane goes down through accident folk still dead sad flower

Different deaths one can almost be understood accident, helps grieving mass senseless shooting can never be come to terms with sad flower
I know you didn't intend it this way, but to argue that a death from a car accident is not as noteworthy as a death from a shooting is demeaning to the families of those who lost a family member in a car accident.
That is exactly the negative attitude, which prevents solutions to problems. thumbs down
if you crash into a school bus and kill 30 kids by mistake thats not the same as beheading a dozen small children.

Not the same to whom? The families of the dead?

In what way are the families of the children killed by mistake in the school bus any less injured than the families of the other dead children?

Is this view not diminishing of the pain suffered by the children killed on the bus?

Is it not focusing on the rare tragedy while ignoring the common tragedy and using the statistically insignificant to make policy based on sensationalization?
A car nor a gun kills. It is the person that does. To avoid needless accidents maybe make it more difficult to use either. Many people shot them selves by accident. One thing that is difficult to control is someone with a criminal mind who could earn owning either or both. The person could use either as weapon.
"Man bites dog" is news. "Dog bites man" is not. Traffic injuries/fatalities will go way down only if the volume of traffic goes way down. Are you ready to sacrifice your car to help?
And we have 350 million now the last I checked was around 267 million and over 7 billion world wide. but in the USA - children, adults and senior citizens. A child hardly ever dies in school or on a bus. There is a tiny percentage of crazy people in the age range of 18-62 that make up for Statistics. If you die and then you are a victim of an act of crime or traffic accident. When Gun Owners our required to bind an insurance Co. to the owners of firearms. Would help shooting victimsconfused
@Swamie if someone crazy or not was hellbent on murdering people, he, she or it would still find away including but not limited to getting a gun illegally.

As of a year ago. It's higher now... including hundreds of thousands of illegals who poured into America illegally over the Mexican border thanks to an assist by the Democrats since then.

maybe theres no driving test over there
I can't answer that question the last time I looked for the population count was 1995. And I thought if I had a penny from everyone I could be rich. But if everybody stayed home for a day. that saves lives. Canada seems to be safer then the USA colder climinate less crime
Problem is we are getting desensitized wave
so just continue to do nothing then and allow people to be murdered and call it collateral damage....at least with a car license you do have to jump through hoops to get a license....the same cant be said to get a gun....wave
Equating terrorism with car accidents is whats insane.doh
so just continue to do nothing then and allow people to be murdered and call it collateral damage

At some point the answer to that is yes.

The classic example you learn about in Econ 101 is pollution. You may be able to reduce the level of a polluted body of water that is 75% polluted down to 25% fairly cheaply. But reducing it from 25% polluted to 10% polluted may cost twice as much as reducing it to 25% from 75%.

And reducing it from 10% to 1% polluted might cost 4 times much as the last reduction.

And reducing it from 1% to 0.1% might cost 8 times as much, which may be the entire wealth of every person on the planet.

And so on.

It's the law of diminishing returns for your investment. The more you try to reduce something the more the incremental cost of the reduction.

In the example you NEVER get to the point where pollution is reduced to nonexistent. There is ALWAYS some level of pollution. You could spend every penny that ever existed on a problem and STILL never reduce it to ZERO.

But of course you can't spend every penny because there are other things you need to spend money on too that are equally or more important such as eating.

This is exactly the same principle. The number of people killed by incidents like this is infinitesimal. We have already reduced the level down to a statistically insignificant level. The cost of reducing it even further, which may or may not even be possible is not worth spending because there are other uses for those resources which will benefit society more.

Resources are not unlimited. It doesn't make sense to waste them on something that is so statistically insignificant and may not be able to be reduced significantly no matter how much is spent on it.

In any event, it certainly isn't sane to infringe any further on the gun ownership rights of 349,999,990 US citizens because there are 10 crazy people out there. That's letting the tail wag the dog.

That isn't to say that there aren't some other areas that might be appropriate to look into such as the one President Trump is suggesting, i.e. focusing on identifying people with mental problems before they get to the point where they can commit such acts and isolating them from society. It's entirely possible that the left's obsessive compulsion to focus the discussion on gun control, when there is no evidence at all that this is an effective solution since there are already hundreds of gun control laws, has diverted attention away from what may in fact be a viable way to further reduce the problem.
Dead are dead of course. After sometime all these victims are going to become just another gravestone. No politician or a blogger won't visit them and lay flowers.

So.. while the topic is still hot, insanity will prevail even in Cs.

Don't you think the real insanity is this divisive political Propaganda ?
The statistics you never hear about are the ones about the thousands of innocent lives that are SAVED every year because law abiding citizens had the right to own guns.

I was glad to see him not cave to the pressure, he stuck to the truth.

"Mental illness and hatred pulls the trigger, not the gun.”
