Cockney Rebel frontman Steve Harley has died “peacefully at home” at the age of 73, his family has announced.
A baby giraffe has died of a broken neck at Zoo Miami, zoo officials said.

The giraffe, born on December 15, was found by the zoo’s staff on Saturday morning, spokesperson Ron Magill said.

“Because the event that led to this trauma happened overnight and was not personally observed, zoo officials can only speculate that something startled the animal and caused it to run into a fence, resulting in the fatal injury,” Magill said.

A necropsy determined that the giraffe had a broken neck.

The former President says he will take "appropriate action" if the Duke is found to have lied about taking drugs on his US immigration forms.

Donald Trump has suggested he could deport the Duke of Sussex from the United States over claims he lied on his visa application about taking drugs.

In an interview with Nigel Farage, the former President said he would take “appropriate action” if he were to win November’s presidential election and Prince Harry was found to have lied on his immigration forms.
As I stated on another blog relating to the above Trump seems to have forgotten his past links with drug cartels.doh

A plot to assassinate Germany's Adolf Hitler came within 120 seconds of success on March 21, 1943.

With growing military failures in World War II, senior army officers planned to kill the Nazi Fuehrer and bring an end to the conflict. With Hitler surrounded by tight security, Colonel Freiherr von Gersdorff offered to make the ultimate sacrifice as he accompanied the Nazi leader on a tour of a military museum in Berlin.

?Von Gersdorff had two bombs in his coat pockets, each with a 10-minute, fuse. Keeping a careful eye on his watch, he planned to embrace Hitler seconds before detonation and kill him in a suicide bombing.

But Hitler suddenly changed his schedule, and departed the museum's exhibition hall after only eight minutes. ?Von Gersdorff had just enough time to rush to a bathroom where he defused the bombs.
Three boys, ages 11, 12 and 16, and dubbed the "Little Rascals," have been arrested for robbing a bank in Houston, authorities confirmed Wednesday.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the youngsters were in custody and have been charged with robbery by threat. Gonzalez said that because of their ages, no additional information would be released, and the sheriff's office didn't immediately respond to a request for more information.

The FBI’s Houston office says the trio were wanted for robbing a Wells Fargo bank in the Greenspoint area of north Houston on March 14. The FBI posted an image of the trio on X, showing all three wearing hoodies inside the bank's lobby. A message left with the FBI seeking additional information wasn't immediately returned.
59-year-old intellectually disabled murderer is set to be executed today as the US state of Georgia gave the go-ahead for their first execution in over four years.

Willie Pye was convicted of kidnapping, raping and murdering his former girlfriend, Alice Yarbrough, in 1993, and is set to face lethal injection.

Pye’s legal team filed a last-minute plea of clemency, citing that he has an intellectual disability with an IQ of just 68 and a harrowing upbringing riddled with violence, neglect and poverty.
It’s possible to contract a respiratory condition, colloquially referred to as hot-tub lung.

It’s triggered by microbes called mycobacteria, from the same family as those which cause the infection tuberculosis (TB).

Like in TB, hot-tub lung bacteria generate patches of inflammation in the lung tissue. This results in symptoms such as shortness of breath, cough and fever. The lung changes can be seen on an X-ray or CT scan of the chest, and may appear quite profound.

The hot tub acts as a perfect environment for the growth of these bacteria because the warmth of the system creates an optimum temperature for their proliferation. The bubbling of the water also acts as an aerosol – allowing the bacteria to be released into the air, where they can be inhaled.

Unlike TB, which requires long-term antibiotics and is becoming increasingly difficult to treat, hot-tub lung may be considered more of an inflammatory condition.
An Ancient frog species named after Kermit the Frog by scientists

Kermit the Frog has been around since 1955 – but a new Kermit on the block was actually around much longer ago.

Scientists have uncovered a fossil of an ancient 270-million-year-old amphibian ancestor, and named it after him.

Officially called Kermitops gratus, it earned the name due to its resemblance to The Muppet Show star.

The prehistoric creatures are thought of as one of the first true amphibians, representing a key step in evolution when life went from water to land.

During the pandemic, some cafés refused to accept reusable cups for fear of spreading Covid-19. The use of reusable coffee cups hasn't bounced back since.

According to Hannah Blumhardt of Takeaway Throwaways, research suggests that Kiwis send more than 295 million SUCs to landfills annually.

Even compostable cups are not as environmentally friendly as you might think.

"To be composted, they need to get to a specialised composting facility, which hardly any of them do," Blumhardt said.

Compostable cups, like conventional SUCs, also contain a plastic lining.

"Research has found that single-use coffee cups release billions of microplastics into the hot drink they hold."

Harvard University said it has removed human skin from the binding of a 19th century book about the afterlife that has been in its collections since the 1930s. The decision came after a review found ethical concerns with the book's origin and history.

The book, Des Destinées de L’âme, meaning "Destinies of the Soul," was written by Arsène Houssaye, a French novelist and poet, in the early 1880s. The printed text was given to a physician, Ludovic Bouland, who "bound the book with skin he took without consent from the body of a deceased female patient in a hospital where he worked," Harvard said in a recent statement. The book has been at the university's Houghton Library.

Bouland included a handwritten note inside the book. It said "a book about the human soul deserved to have a human covering," associate university librarian Thomas Hyry said in a published question-and-answer segment online Wednesday (local time). The note also detailed the process behind preparing the skin for binding.

Scientific analysis done in 2014 confirmed the binding was made of human skin, the university said

Sound and touch devices will be available at public gatherings on April 8, when a total solar eclipse crosses North America, the moon blotting out the sun for a few minutes.

“Eclipses are very beautiful things, and everyone should be able to experience it once in their lifetime,” said Yuki Hatch, a high school senior in Austin, Texas.

Hatch is a visually impaired student and a space enthusiast who hopes to one day become a computer scientist for NASA. On eclipse day, she and her classmates at the Texas School for the Blind and Visually Impaired plan to sit outside in the school’s grassy quad and listen to a small device called a LightSound box that translates changing light into sounds.

When the sun is bright, there will be high, delicate flute notes. As the moon begins to cover the sun, the mid-range notes are those of a clarinet. Darkness is rendered by a low clicking sound.

The leader of an offshoot polygamous sect near the Arizona-Utah border has pleaded guilty to conspiring to transport underage girls across state lines in what authorities say was a yearslong scheme to orchestrate s*xual acts involving children.

Samuel Bateman also pleaded guilty on Monday in US District Court in Phoenix to conspiring to commit kidnapping in a plan to free underage girls who had been taken into Arizona state custody. His plea agreement recommends a sentence of 20 to 50 years in prison, though one of his convictions carries a possible maximum sentence of life in prison.
