RE: So over getting older

Hola Suzie wave

I'm proud to be 84 and all that it throws at me. I'm told I don't look my age but that doesn't mean that I don't feel itgrin My profile picture is me last year ,out there and proud.

3 replacement joints on I'm still up to walking with my local well being group and would even dance if I could .My boogie bouncer is great for exercise and a spot of gardening on my patio keep me occupied.

The most important part of ageing in my opinion is also keeping the brain active hence my visits to the blogs for my sins.Sitting in front of a T.V. all day is not my forte.

Embrace growing old and be positive as the only direction it's going is forward.

dancing

RE: Changing someones opinion... in CS

I don't mind being challenged but I do object to being insulted because my response is not what they want to hear.

Other than that I'm always open to persuasion and a possible change of thought.grin

RE: Changing someones opinion... in CS

Hi chat,

I don't come on here to change anyone's opinion ,but some people don't see it that way when I comment on any given post to do with political issues.

I'm told I'm argumentative or thick or believe in the media ,you name it some people have got a label for anything if it goes against their own political viewpoint.

Does this bother me ? No of course not as to my way of thinking if you have to try to belittle someone to get your own point across you've already lost my interest and sometimes respect..handshake

RE: Soaring gas prices

Here's a rather long article regarding gas prices.Draw your own conclusions Shawn.

RE: Soaring gas prices

Not much different than here Shawndoh

Trouble is with the U.K its easy access so what do we do, leave them to die in smugglers illegal boats.dunno

RE: Soaring gas prices

Having a difference of opinion is hardly an argument surelydunno

I have family in America, South Dakota to be exact .Standing up for one's thoughts and opinions is hardly playing the victim .I see a lot wrong in the World and having lived and survived one World War I'd hate to have to go through it all again especially at my age. As for my being responsible for no posters ,do me a favour. I and many others that I still know have been here for years including Grand and we often bounce off each other but there is no animosity at least not on my part.handshake

RE: Soaring gas prices

I do wish you'd stop assuming I hate people. It's a fact Grand nothing more nothing less.

You love Putin and Trump and think they are the answer to World issues and that's fine with me .I and many others see a totally different side to these two men and that's fine too.

It's called having an opinion.

RE: Soaring gas prices

The United States is the country that uses the most petrol as fuel for vehicles. This is due to a number of factors, including the large population and vast land area, which leads to a high demand for transportation.

Big isn't always productive and the Americans just love their gas guzzlers.grin

RE: Soaring gas prices

You want to hear my view too Grand.

If Putin succeeds in Ukraine he will almost certainly push his luck in other countries.

Imperialism at its worst and the Russians are revolting, slowly but surely against his regime.

Watch this space.handshake

RE: Soaring gas prices

"The White House has staked its credibility on being able to lower energy prices," says Ben Cahill, a senior fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a Washington thinktank. "It's definitely unusual because the reality is that presidents don't control gas prices. They never have and they never will."

Guess that would depend on how good the sex was Suzie.grin

RE: UK SMOKING BAN

Started on Woodbines and Players Weights and ended up on Rothmans but never a heavy smoker Most would be 8 to 10 a day so an average of maybe 3 packets a week bearing in mind they were only about £3:50 to £4 per packet of 20.grin

RE: JAPAN POPULATION DECLINE

Usually you will not qualify if you’re from outside the EU, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland or Liechtenstein and your child does not live with you.

RE: Soaring gas prices

There are concerns a worsening conflict in the Middle East could disrupt oil supplies.

Brent crude, the international benchmark for oil prices, rose by 1.8% to $88 a barrel after the attack.

Oil prices had jumped by as much as 3.5% initially but the price stabilised when it became clearer the strike was limited.

RE: We lost another one...

I'm sad to be reading this today but thankful for the information.

Already missing you Gal.

RE: Soaring gas prices

I'm fully aware of the facts of support for gas and electricity from the Government Merlot but my point in all of this was that the U.S. president has no control over gasolene prices. FACT.

I don't resent being told anything if it's true and I am unaware, that's called positive information. What I object to is anyone believing that Trump actually reduced fuel prices and hoping I'll believe it.

Did you read this article.?

What about from a legacy perspective? Can presidents say that they reduced gas prices over their term in office? Nope. Every president since 2000 has left office with gas prices higher than they took office (using EIA numbers):

Bill Clinton left office with gas prices 39 cents higher ($1.06 on Jan. 25, 1993; $1.47 on Jan. 22, 2001).
George W. Bush also left office with gas prices 39 cents higher ($1.47 on Jan. 22, 2001; $1.84 on Jan. 26, 2009).
Barack Obama left office with gas prices 49 cents higher ($1.84 on Jan. 26, 2009; $2.33 on Jan. 23, 2017)
Donald Trump was a relative success story, with prices climbing a mere 6 cents during his time in office ($2.33 on Jan. 23, 2017; $2.39 on Jan. 25, 2021).

So it seems Trump didn't reduce prices they just didn't rise that high.

RE: JAPAN POPULATION DECLINE

Exactly my point.

RE: JAPAN POPULATION DECLINE

Rich kids don't end up on the streets or if some do it's extremely rare.

Your blog is about the decline in births in Japan and I've given you an explanation . All I'm saying is if you can't afford to feed and clothe the children you have don't keep having more . doh

RE: Soaring gas prices

I'm not and it's a fact that no President has control over price reductions whatever you might choose to believe.

RE: JAPAN POPULATION DECLINE

I don't control what others do ,it's their choice, same as how many they have, but I do think that the Japanese have got it right in their thinking.don't you?

Are you in turn saying that lots of kids born into a family that can't afford to feed them deserve to starve?

RE: UK SMOKING BAN

I haven't smoked for almost 25 years and have no desire to after losing people to lung cancer .sigh

RE: UK SMOKING BAN

I was in the queue at W.H.Smiths the other morning and the guy in front of me was asking the price of brands of cigarettes. I nearly fainted when she said £19:50 for a packet of 20 though I can't recall the brand.

For a heavy smoker he/she would be burning away over a £100 or more a weekwow

RE: JAPAN POPULATION DECLINE

Not if you can't afford them . That's the problem with today's society as can be seen by our own country and the amount of benefits dished out to large families whose parents can't afford to feed and clothe them.sigh

RE: JAPAN POPULATION DECLINE

Japan’s birth rate has fallen because there are fewer good opportunities for young people, and especially men, in the country’s economy. In a country where men are still widely expected to be breadwinners and support families, a lack of good jobs may be creating a class of men who don’t marry and have children because they—and their potential partners—know they can’t afford to.

Simple logic if you think about it.
