We have the perfect life and we hate it!

I have noticed lately that many people are complaining that they are very dissatisfied and bored with their lives. They may have a great paying job, live in a nice house, and have a partner who they care about, but they are still not satisfied. Personally I believe we have all been so spoilt with the luxuries that the millennium has to offer, that many people are just plain bored. Although this is not the case for everyone, as many people hate their jobs, where they live, and also their partner, but if this is the case it would pretty much explain everything. But for those who have the necessities in life and are still unhappy, they are not alone. confused
I was visiting one of my friends yesterday, who lives in a wonderful big house with a enormous swim pool . It had been the most gorgeous day and we were both sitting there saying, "Well I guess this is it then, isn't it? People would kill to have lives like you, and we're sitting here and you complaining ". Now I'm not saying either of us don't have our fair share of debts. But I see everything be perfect for her. I sat there with my friend whist trying to work out why it wasn't perfect for her. doh We decided it was partly to do with the continual pressure and worry about financially maintaining this kind of lifestyle (not that it's that lavish). But because of this, she didn't really get the space to enjoy what was around us. Well that was one theory anyway.

I live in a smal flat, what is all I have at the moment,I woke up 5 am to go to work and come home 7 pm.
Do I feel this is perfect? Bloody hell no...loldevil

what ever...at last i write something readble on this blog LOL
cheers

yes amor, we are fed by consumerism, along the way, that you must have this, you cannot do without that, no home should be without one, syndrome, and by the time you have attained them all, you have lost your heart, and your soul, and without them, life isent worth living
I thought it was nice and honest, and i do see this alot, maybe its me and maybe its the times we live in, I do agree that we live in consumerism, and i think if we stop trying so hard to get this and that we might be happy, its still nice to have big dreams and want nice things, but i suppose it how we deal with everything and how we move on.... my thoughts are that you have to find your passion in work and in everything you want to, also i read somewhere.. that a life without service to others in meaningless... but they are just soooo many differnt paths and lifestyles...confused
Like the story of the American businessman and the Mexican fisherman:

An American businessman was standing at the pier of a small coastal Mexican village when a small boat with just one fisherman docked. Inside the small boat were several large yellowfin tuna. The American complimented the Mexican on the quality of his fish.

"How long it took you to catch them?" The American asked.

"Only a little while." The Mexican replied.

"Why don't you stay out longer and catch more fish?" The American then asked.

"I have enough to support my family's immediate needs." The Mexican said.

"But," The American then asked, "What do you do with the rest of your time?"

The Mexican fisherman said, "I sleep late, fish a little, play with my children, take a siesta with my wife, Maria, stroll into the village each evening where I sip wine and play guitar with my amigos, I have a full and busy life, senor."

The American scoffed, "I am a Harvard MBA and could help you. You should spend more time fishing and with the proceeds you buy a bigger boat, and with the proceeds from the bigger boat you could buy several boats, eventually you would have a fleet of fishing boats."

"Instead of selling your catch to a middleman you would sell directly to the consumers, eventually opening your own can factory. You would control the product, processing and distribution. You would need to leave this small coastal fishing village and move to Mexico City, then LA and eventually NYC where you will run your expanding enterprise."

The Mexican fisherman asked, "But senor, how long will this all take?"

To which the American replied, "15-20 years."

"But what then, senor?"

The American laughed and said, "That's the best part. When the time is right you would announce an IPO (Initial Public Offering) and sell your company stock to the public and become very rich, you would make millions."

"Millions, senor? Then what?"

The American said slowly, "Then you would retire. Move to a small coastal fishing village where you would sleep late, fish a little, play with your kids, take a siesta with your wife, stroll to the village in the evenings where you could sip wine and play your guitar with your amigos..."
ten years ago I made a life changing decision to do a job I actually enjoy. I went from a huge salary to the minimum wage which at the time was £3.70 an hour. In fact I used to pay more in tax than I took home in my first pay packet. I'm still in that job 10 years later as I truly love it(but now my own boss), and have emigrated too.

Life is really what you make it, don't dream it, live it! Don't get me wrong life has been tough at times and I've been through the mill financially in this recession. It's just served to make me a stronger person

All i can say is money doesn't bring you happiness, it just gives you greater choices. People and things can't make you happy and fulfilled only you can... happiness comes from within! ooh get me the philosopher!

Classic!! i like that way of thinking!! very true!!cheers
Good comment sassinspain, right on the money!! I am just beginning that journey my self. thumbs up applause bouquet
Hey, thanks for your post, it hits a string here (no, no it's not because of your profile angel!)! I'm just back from a travel in Cuba, had interesting talks with some locals about this. Lots of them are just longing to enter into the rat race you describe (comforting to hear that we share similar lifestyles in different parts of the world frustrated), but their ambitions are simply made impossible by the Castro regime.

They lack about everything we consider obvious, e.g. there is no money nor material to fix sth that is broken, food is often short of supply. Still, some of them prefer to keep socialism like it is as there is no pressure to stand out of the crowd in terms of wealth, and they can survive on the most basic necessities.

Anyhow I realised that I could not live there, when returning I was consciously enjoying the everyday comfort I got so used to, I was even happy to be able to re-enter the rat race (wake up 6am, back home 8 pm, I guess I'm more of an evening person LOLlaugh).

I know that what is said by sassinspain is the cure for this kind of disease (take life in your own hands!), the holiday I describe is nothing more than an aspirine (Alka Seltzer?). But hey, who doesn't need an aspirine from time to time... wine
If you are in good health you have the opportunity to work on the other aspects of your life that need improvement.

Life is not fair to all.

Success often demands sacrifice.

Many small steps over time are necessary to attain your goals.

Better to work for your own personal success than to envy the success of others.
Ain't materialism great !

I think not. The way i see it the less you own the more you have. A simple life is the best life
Years ago I had a great job and I had everything and more. Then that went sour and I had nothing. I moped for 10 years about my losses then one day I really woke up. I accepted the LORD and HE has given me everything I need!

I work in a 9-5 job with nothing to bring home like worries. I come home and do the computer thing, I go dancing twice a week, and I go to church alot!

I no longer get calls in the middle of the night with problems at the company, no more deadlines to meet, no more bad boss, no more anything that really used to get me down!

I kinda feel like my fisherman brother!
The truth of happiness lies in being thankful for what we have rather than be envious of what we don't. Money brings more choices, thus more confusion, and more dissatisfaction. It makes us go spiraling down the never ending wish hole.
thumbs up Great post and many good commentswave
Happyness fist money will follow ,a great adage. I was making 100 an hr back in the U.S . and it was a rat race . I felt I was on a weel .I'v since moved to Costa Rica ,were the people focus on quality of life not quantity in life .Live in a one room bodaga with an amazing view ,and I could not be more content ,yeah I still have planes to build on my home here but isent the focus on love ,life ,and happyness .
