Why does it seem so difficult?
I have finally decided to resign from my job as a teacher from a private school here. The reason why I wanted to quit is because I'm overworking myself about 11 hours a day with one hour break for lunch - 4 hours per day in school - 8am to 12 and another 7 hours per day in my tutorial center - 2pm - 9pm Mondays to Thursdays.I have approached the director/owner of the school but he is not pleased at all with my decision. I gave him my reasons for wanting to resign but he is not taking it very well either. THis director and I are very close friends and I have worked for him since he opened up the school 8 years ago. I don't want to end our friendship just because of my wanting to quit and his refusal to accept it.
Any sound advice folks or tactics on how I should approach this director of mine....

Hi Lach, thanks for your input. I'm crossing my finger that whatever the outcome, we could still be best of friends - kita lihat nanti lah.
No immediate response is needed from him... probably best to talk/meet again in a few days as Lachica suggested.
The bottom line is that you need to take care of yourself and what is best for you. You should be able to do this and still be friendly about it.
If he has trouble understanding and being friendly about the change, he needs to work on his friendship skills.
