What's your ideal lifestyle?

Eventually I'd like to lead a very simple existence being as self sustaining as possible - big vegetable garden, chickens, making my own bread, in a quiet, picturesque bush location.

My cottage would be a mud brick or straw bale structure that is built from recycled building materials and its power supplied from the sun or river, taking me "off the grid" maaan. (That's hippie speak)

Something like this. What is your ideal lifestyle?

The second photo reminds me of a house I remodeled inside and out with an "adobe" look. I mixed the plaster in the house and I used a small gravel mixed in with the sand to do the inside. I styled the corners of the room with little "nooks" like that.

I did the exterior with a rough looking swipe of my trowel to create a stucco look that was pretty different. i had a happy client on that job!

I love my kids with my whole heart and soul, but I wished I had the same lifestyle you have because I would really be a wanderer. I'm happy, though, because God blessed me with some great off-spring that I am truly proud of.
You got something pretty beautiful there Ham. All I ever wanted in this life was a log cabin in the woods like we use to live in when I was 12yers. Lord I do miss it. Even wrote a poem once about it.
A beach house with my own private beachgrin grin grin
ed - Although the wander's life is a happy one, there also seems to be a part of me that requires a home, this conflict presenting itself more and more often recently.

Spring - I've seen some great log cabins and understand t5he attraction completely.

Sewwt- yours would be my second option for sure. laugh

I like the simple things in life with a few extra's laugh

win the European lotto - spend time between New-York city & Dublin. Work a three day week to keep the brain active & spend four months of the year in the South of Italy with the love of my life

now that's a very simple life & a dream laugh

cool
I was raise and born in a province, far province. I like the simple living. Like you Ham, a home near the nature (forest or beach for me) with all those livestocks, fruit trees and vegetables we can grow. And would love to continue working in the rice paddies (I know its mud but it has keep us (my whole family) survived all those hard years.
Hi Ham wave
My ideal life style is very similar to yours... living off the grid, being self sustainable.
My place would look similar to this:

You can place them almost anywhere.

My dream is to start a small hostel in the middle of nowhere, in New Zealand or somewhere in Asia smitten

Still some work to do first though mumbling
Good morning Hammoc,

I like the pictures, remind me of the house of my grandfather, me i was born in the country side and the vacations i speend with them when i was just a child was the best of my life. I like rustic a lot on a house and combine with old style make it is better. thumbs up

wish you a lovely Wendsday! wave
all want, all can't.......sigh
great photos Ham cool thumbs up
my ideal lifestyle...
I would like to work 3 days out of home and 2 days from home, to have free weeekends, cosy apartment with terrace in the city and small house somewhere in a warm place to stay during winters. I would like to have time for myself to share among the most important people in my life,.. my work and my hobby ( traveling)- to have opportunity to travel, discover new places and have somebody- the most important - to share with experiences and impressions.... angel
have u got ur ideal life style in Bali, Ham?dunno dunno dunno
Hey Ham --- Your pic. Are you Cheech or Chong? (looks like Tommy Chong from the 70's laugh )

The country (and rustic living) is a beautiful place to visit! Not my first choice though... Ideally... a comfortable home in the suburbs... to be able to visit the (not too big) city ... to be close to the country and farms (and strawberry picking might come early this year grin ).

Being on the grid in fine but I'll have solar on the roof in order to contribute my share to it.

A cottage on a lake sounds awesome too! dancing
love how your future home looks like love

am a little old-fashioned when it comes to this sort of topic as I feel that eventually this lifestyle that we supposedy dreaming of having is more about a place where we feel we belong.

I believe in the saying of 'home is where the heart is' and with that said, probably at this stage of my life I would prefer to have a nice place in a suburb, not too far from the city for work and socializing. But who knows, I might enjoy the thought of living somewhere in Boston one day cheers

moreover, it would be perfect to have someone to come home too - wherever this home of mine will be teddybear
I'm not doing too bad at the moment Hammockman, life is good. comfort
For me, any place where I could have a garden full of roses, jasmines and many other flowers. rose And also a cashew tree in my backyard. Just perfect! daydream purple heart
I would like a place in the country, with room for a nice garden and also a pond that is stocked with fish. Seeing the sunsets reflected off of the water and listening to the frogs croak at night, what more could you want?dunno dunno
wow Ham, good choice thumbs up

I imagined somehow close to the beach or lake with private deck like this to relax smitten
