It happened when one of her sisters visited her in Singapore where she worked as a cabaret dancer. One night her sister wanted to make a phone call and asked Chan's fiance to accompany her. That so-called phone call took both of them a long time to come back. They came back at 4am the next morning. When Chan saw lipstick marks smeared all over her fiance's shirt, she was so angry that she grabbed her fiance by the shirt and hit him. The next morning, she sent her sister packing.
Three days later, a letter addressed to her fiance came and Chan suspected it must be from her sister, she opened it. Her sister asked Chan's fiance to meet her in Kuala Lumpur. Her sister signed off as Rose Chan. She was so mad that from that day onwards, she adopted the stage name Rose Chan.
