the pearl

Embedded image from another site

A shrimp asked the clam, you still haven't hatched that egg ? It's a pearl, said the clam. And the shrimp said: what produce offspring of your own kind, I call an egg. The clam replied: It's a pearl, it's another world. The shrimp shook his head: If it's not going to be a baby clam, then what is the use of it ?
- when you become ready for it's secret, then the world might reveal the meaning to you, said the clam. And from that day on, the shrimp kept wondering when he would be ready, as the world had clammed up on him.

The pearl novel it is written by steinbeck.
Never heard of it - but this is my own little tale.. as a reply to someone here...
Mr. Imramrose, I've just read the Steinbeck novel summary - thanks for that one - and let me tell you that there's no shrimps talking to any clam professor further more there are no similarity whatsoever.

Mr. 2maybe, I don't have any eggs OR pearls and still I'll be sitting with this for a while and diving into its depths. I can see this making a wonderful story for children!
Very clever.
wave I don't know if it's the same "The Pearl" novel being mentioned, because my English setwork choice in 1972 was The Pearl! Keno, was the main character, who found the pearl and he loses his child to a scorpion sting.
But I also don't see any correlation with the pearl & the shrimp in above blog! doh handshake
@Bali.. glad ur fine in Bali lips
Mr. St. Elmo, that would have been "Kino" and never less I'm totally impressed and hope I'll have a memory like you've at that age tip hat
Vary nicely written.

I suggest you read "The Pearl" by John Steinbeck. I have many of his novels and they are all great. He was quite a writer and was very nice to the image of the Mexican and Mexican-American people. And Chinese, too.

You will like them...guaranteed!
Whhops!!

Very instead of vary.

East of Eden! how can I forget that novel. Wow! What an inro. The book had me captivated from beginning to end!

I have a huge collection of John Stenbeck. And for my Granddaughters birthday I bought her a "Red Pony" edition that was bound beautiful.

Yep, Mister, you caused quite a stir and a nice I might add!
