Who we are

In a previous blog I wrote, something funny took place. Watching the Trump go one-on-one with Laura Ingraham, he revealed to me, like a sort of regression, a kid not being appreciated by his father, a lot of pieces of the enigma fell into place. I shared the video, believing it would be plain for everyone to see. But it was not.

Why not ? Well, it resonated with some of my own battles in early childhood. I recognized something. For Trump, it is not about politics, it is not about doing something good for the American people. It is personal. He has been wronged.

Who are we ?

We all have a personal history. We seek support of our own beliefs. Trump supporters have a personal story that resonate with Trump, others have the opposite. If I say anything negative about Trump, a Trump defender takes it personal and react strongly, because his beliefs come under attack.

That is "who we are". We are our own beliefs and emotions. It is the lens we perceive the world through.

This is who we are. And we react. We fight each other - not because of Trump, but because of our own invested beliefs. But beliefs change. The beliefs I held as a child, did keep me safe, while they would not be appropriate today. Many beliefs may change because you get better informed. We are aware that our knowledge is not good in many areas. Because of goodwill and dependence on other people, we usually are a bit more reserved and careful or else we may loose those benefits. It is a bit strange that people so willingly seem to throw such constraints overboard and even provoke open conflicts for an untrustworthy individual in Washington that in any case will only be around for a numbered years.

Good and evil ? You shall know them by their fruits. So what does it taste like ?

@Jac - well, I cannot even steer myself ;)

"We are perhaps not just our own beliefs and emotions, but our parents' beliefs and emotions, too." - you are absolutely right, much more then we like to think.

"I am alarmed at Trump's dangerousness; my daughter expresses her contempt, but I don't think she has the same perception of what it can lead to."

yes, I just found myself trying to express the same thought, used a bloody long time at it too, before I noticed that - oh, she has already said it ;)

Just deleted a long paragraph - you said it better

Oh.

What shall we talk about now I've killed off that train of thought? laugh
yes jac, in fact you did laugh
Oh, bollux. blushing laugh
The alternative to Trump is rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic. The main focus of attention for the goodwhites is appearing more virtuous than the next goodwhite, yes you're at the top of the west but this will soon not be the top of anything. Jostling for status whilst Rome burns that's who they are.
And the pandemic is the icing on the cake. What better evidence of more credit than sense than shutting everything down for a flu. We already had a youth that would grow up to be poorer than its parents and we've taken the time to ruin their education and social lives too. The consequences of filling borrowed time with pretentious ideas will very soon be felt by all.
More credit than sense and white kudos. Much more of the world thinks you're talking sense not because you're talented but because you're white. You'd have had Africa starving itself to dodge this flu when common sense says they'll be spared. And so they are. The pandemic is a real embarrassment to experts how they almost unanimously set us down this path of civil war and economic depression.. in order to dodge a flu. How blind can you get? My cousin has autism and comes with less tunnel than that.
@ChesneyChrist - Good points, so why is Rome burning ?

In most of history, disruptive technologies have changed the landscape. If you follow the money, huge fortunes are made by educated specialist. No wonder there has been a great focus on education. However, a smart tool can replace hundreds of workers. I believe that is part of the problem. And labor intensive tasks, has been easy to outsource. Soldiers march on good footwear and food, which have been neglected. I hope we will find better solutions then just rearranging the deck chairs.
