Proud!
At the end of the weekdays this week, my student made me very proud of him.First, I will tell something about him. He's 11 years old. He's a slow learner. He has been struggling really hard in mathematics class. He couldn't even do the backward counting (10, 9, 8, 7, etc). Last semester, during math class, he has never shown willingness to strive hard to learn math and he rarely did his homework. We have to sit with him in one class and made him did his homework at school.
This week, after a struggling first week, I talked to him and asked him to stretch his memory about the previous lessons. I told him to help me helping him. Yesterday, surprisingly, he did the backward counting from 10 to 1 automatically. I was shocked and asked him to do it for the next math problems. He struggled when he did backward counting from 13 (instead of 12 after 13, he said 14). Then, I asked him to do the backward counting together with me. He did it willingly and slowly but sure, he did it! He counted from 13 to 9 straight away!
The most surprising thing was, he did his homework with only 1 small mistake! (with help from his mother, but still.. He did it!). I talked to him again and told him how proud I was. And there it was. The smile that I've been waiting for since I met him! The smile that's showing how proud he is of himself!
Well done my boy! The teachers always know that you're able to do it! :')
