Belgium, Some of my favourite paintings

I was thinking maybe this would be a nice encore to my latest series of blogs about my country. One of my major passions.. I am no expert in any way but i do recognise wonderfull paintings when i see one.

One of my favourite painters is Rene magritte.. the creativity of this man was so wonderfull. I suppose he is a classical belgian.

a few of his most famous works.

another painting i really admire is the Lamb of God.. It is located in ghent only a few miles from my home and I have been watching it numerous times. It is also very famous because of the missing parts that were stolen long time ago.
Painted by the brothers Van eyck
This is when it is open..

Again this is just a small part of what Belgium has to offer but it should give you an idea to get started.

wich one?? I think they are some of the best this world has ever known
the paintings are stunning Teddy ! thumbs up
They look even better in real. Glad you liked them serenity
All except the first two grin
the first ones might not be as stunning as painting itself.. but the creativity and the thinking that is behind them actually are wonderfull. Not sure if you understand the tekst on the first one..

ceci n'est pas une pipe.. this isn't a pipe..
and its true.. it isn't a pipe.. it is a painting of a pipe.. and it this case i guess it would be a picture of a painting of a pipe.
Hi Teddy, what is the meaning of 2nd picture? why that man is hiding his face behind the apple? Or is it a hat decor laugh
Some lovely pictures,The Tate in London has some good pictures, and the Louvre in Paris, I have visited them and will make a point of visiting Belgium gallery when I am there next.grin
I have no idea about the 2nd picture.. I should look that one up.. But i like it. Like i said i'm no expert. I just love how silly some of his works look.
Yes, I found Belgium really interesting, but I did not go to churches... I found the art work around Brussels, in the streets, on the walls to be interesting..

and the Grand Plas, and Atomium... really an art on their own.
You have picked some great paintings to show us Teddy,
A wide range of diversity.
thumbs up thumbs up
merri.. I know when you visit a different country their are so many things to pick from. you can never see all the good stuff in just one visit. I have been living here all my life and still discover new things. I am glad you liked your visit here.

Simmo, Belgium has been at one point the 4th or maybe even 3rd most important country in the world. We have been an important country for many scientist and artists. People as van gogh rembrandt all spend much of their time in our big cities as antwerp and brussels. Their is so many things to pick from. But these were a few of my favourites. If only someday I could have some of these hanging in my living room.
I guess you would have to have a spare million or so $$$$$$ just to buy one of them eh?
I have never told you this, but a good mate of mine is Belgium and every year he insists that we and some other mates go to a Belguim dance/festival with him.
Tis always a great night.
I cant remember what the reason is for the festival but it is always a good night, and they are a very proud race.
thumbs up
for a belgian any reason would be good to have a party.. Don't worry about the reason and just have fun. thats our policy.
One of the best parties i've been to these last few years was when we gotten the world record of days withour goverment that i mentioned on one of the other Belgium blogs i've put up yesterday. But my favorite event would be the "gentse feesten".. Its a city festival that goes on for 10 days with allot of stages troughout the city party non-stop if ya want. Also allot of cultural events are being organised then special expositions and shows and all that. But most will go for the music and the beers.
Lots of dancing and yes lots of DRINKING.....they always make myself and the others that are not Belgium feel very very welcomed.
And some of the women....oh la la.....rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing
Really?? How suprising rolling on the floor laughing

Here is a clip from the gentse feesten
its the opening parade of this year.. It has some really wonderfull street artists in it.

I guess a lot of countries have their own festivals that they celebrate as well.
I'm off to bed as i am pretty sure i can hear my bed calling me....rolling on the floor laughing handshake
have a good night mate
A very nice blog Teddy , nice that you offer an insight of the wonderful art that exists in your country ..... Flemish art has always been among the best in the world . I hope you can share some more historical info about your country. saskia
