honesty in business

I buy a lot of jewelry for the store and my personal retirement plans. As i posted before the other day a lady brought me in a bunch of jewelry. 99% was costume. i found 3 pieces of .925 silver that the value added up about $7 bucks.She bought it to me for an appraisal with the option to buy. i usually buy a box full of costume for $20. She said that was the figure she had in mind too. After purchasing i put the box away to go through later. My dad stopped by last night and i had to show him my find.we started digging into the box again. I forgot to look at the watches that were in there. knowing the jewelry was mostly costume i passed them up. Upon looking at them i found 5 or so antique ones. One was a bulova. Another was a 14kt gold Hamilton that still works. I have a conscience that it really bothers me when i error like this. I have 3 of the watches running on ebay right now. as soon as it sells and i collect the money i am calling the lady up to pay her a fare share. People like that i am so honest. I like that they keep bringing me things because of it. My checkbook doesn't lol but money is really nothing in the spectrum of things.

when it comes to business , adverts , word of mouth comes first , if you do good deeds , it comes back as repete business .....sweet A banana
if you really are honest you would have called her before putting it on ebay, maybe she had other plans for themscold
Good point Happy i want the beer back scold detective
I can assure you her intentions were to sell for the maximum amount possible. She didn't want any of it. Just trying to make it all right ;-)
so why didnt you let her know in the first place? before putting it on ebay?
I couldn't put an exact value on the watches. Its different than buying gold rings for weight. Watches only the bodies are metal content the gears and movements are usually not. Antiques make it harder since they are limited in numbers. Factoring in variations it could truly be a 1 of 1 item with.nothing to reference it to. With stuff like that the value is only what someone is willing to pay. So I opened it up the globes largest auction house to get the most for it.
you are still not answering my initial question, why didnt you tell her before putting it on ebay?
oh come one el, if i was interrogating him i would have worn thisshimmy underneath thisdetective
i just took it from his the topic: honesty in business, and seems he wasnt honest from the start
edit: My bad....

Waal...he's put himself and business under scrutiny on an International forum. Up to him to see how far he'll go towards rectifying the issue. thumbs up beer
Why , nice you feel that way but if she did have any idea she didn't care. I bet the guy that got the Elite lotus submarine of the James Bond movie for a steel, then sold for a million bucks didn't care.
Yes he is under no obligation, but I'm sticking to my guns, bout him being honest, if he was so honest why not tell her bout it when he discovered it? And if its a surprise he should have mentioned it and also I doubt that I ruined his surprise when he posted this blog wink
I also probably failed to mention this is what my business does is sell things for people. We sell it and then cut them a check
doh i still say why didnt you call her, when you found out you had the watches? thats what im on about,cause your blog topic stares honestly in business, not surprise someone? so either you are avoiding the question or you dont know the true meaning of honesty and which way, im done, wine

@Mr Fix it,

I think what you're doing is fine. She's not expecting anything so I'm sure she'll be happy and appreciate your honesty as a lot of people wouldn't bother telling her and keep the money.
