Ahh Scouse27 your post brought back many memories my first time ever in Germany in a bar looking for the toilet.. I said to a German national "Herren Bitte" thinking I was aking for toilets he looked at me and stared blankly and then said "None here mate try this bar Medusa down the road"... grr felt so embarrassed as the correct word should have been Toiletten bitte. That same night another German came up to me held up up his hand and said "Funf" (Five) mind boggled? did I have 5 minutes to get out before getting my head kicked in or what? He came back later and then said he had 5 days left of his National Service and he was again a free man... phew!!
