Mean Mean Turkey Tom

My mean turkey tom is on his feet. He's a beautiful bird: 33% each of Red Bourbon, Wild Turkey and Bronze Turkey. He weighs about 25 lbs and I have been enjoying his strutting around the back yard for 3 years. About 4 days ago, my Great Pyrenees male "Atman", who weighs nearly 130 lbs, got angry with this tom and thumpped him on the head. Even though this bird flogs me (or ties to) every time I go in the back yard during spring and summer, I've been carrying him food and water in an isolation pen for 3 days. Today he's on his feet and he has a slight tremble in his head and neck. Before, he couldn't even hold his head up straight. Now, at least, he's up and wobbling on his fet and he's holding his head straight (although a little palsied) intermittantly. He may survive.

I don't know why I'm trying so hard to save him. I have seven acres of woods and I had hoped they would leave the back yard and go into the woods. They are remarkably stubborn animals. They fly over the 6' tall fence and go foraging and come back to the back yard to roost and try to steal the dog's food. THAT'S how this tom ended up hurt, in fact. I fed the dog just a little too early. I have to wait until after dark or the birds stupidly challenge Atman for his grub. There's no teaching turkeys either. They are stupid beyond any hope of remediation.

I've been trying to find someone to sell this flock to, in fact. Since the economy has started leveling out and growing a little, I don't feel the need to have the turkeys or the chickens. I have eaten more eggs in this life than I ever thought I would and now I wouldn't mind never seeing another egg again. It's odd as I have spent 16 years creating my own breed of chickens and now, I really could not care less. I like seeing the birds wandering around and I like hearing the roosters, but I don't want the responsibility anymore. Priorities have changed. I am feeling the need to fly the coop myself. heart wings

Quite some time ago we had a German Jagtterrier ,its a small dog with a heart as big as a house ,sometimes overprotective but thats just the way he was .
My father had a few ducks and chickens in the backyard ,not that we had much use of them but my father loved to have them. The dog never chased them or harmed them in anyway ,until one night...Guess he was angry and felt neglected so he slaughtered them all
