........Gosh........

.........my generator killed its voltage regulator .....again ....so ...this time I complained to the manufacture , saying that I could return one of the faulty units , and see if they could make a fix for the , what ever bit that keeps dying ....

but no luck ....what I did find out , was they only cost USD 12.00 each with USA 55.00 to post .....so I have ordered 2 of them from China....

I was paying $153.00 NZ dollars each for them here ....and some cost as much as $480.00 NZ ....some one was sure making profit out of others misery ....

If you can get them from the U.S. FOR $67 dont tell me the locals arent ripping you off, they would know that.wave
put your glasses back on .....I'm not buying any thing from the USA laugh
Well China then same difference.thumbs up
same difference as what ? wave
I am so sorry to hear that...
next time you buy from me, I will give you big discount if I have the items you need... ok dear ? kiss
What ? you have some GAVR 8A do you ...?? wave
I thought so too ....thats why I asked to return one to see if theres a real fix ....but they are real cheap , where they are made ...wave
Hi Virgo
I could not have given you better advice than Hans. He is spot on.thumbs up
cheers wave
Is there a TRIAC inside? U often get trouble with such a design.
its a brushless design single phase generator , it only runs my mig welder ....it is kept dry ..wave it never blows its fuze..
Thank to Hans for sharing experience which is valid also for all extra humid locations. Some manufacturers choosed cheapest carbon resistors and capacitors etc. They prefer a (1c ) resistor instead of a 1,5 cent one for 1 dollars more profit But they earn 1 dollar more they shorten the life of equipment tenfold. In your case when your next order reaches; consult a local technician to check and change few simple component on the circuit board! Also keep it warm if salty or humility atmosphere present. Alternatively you could start heating it a night before. Old days the way of doing that was using an electic lamp ( filament types that we were using to light our rooms) of 40 or 100 watts turned on continuously to keep warm air in box. That is the way what I should do for myself. wine
@ Virgo - You don't have to get the gen. wet as such, the salt laden moisture is attracted to electronic and electrical components like a magnet as they are cooling down even if you keep it safe and dry in a shed.

One of two things usually occur either the salt/moisture corrodes wire or the leg/s of IC'c or other components causing them to become thinner thus changing the resistance and the current that it can carry...... or the salt accumulates like a bridge between contacts causing a short.

@ Cat - Thanks mate but salt laden moisture is probably only one possible cause in Virgo's situation.... blues

@ Z - Another little known problem is a phenomenon, just as deadly to electronics are 'Tin Whiskers'.... wow ... rather than copy stacks of info here, maybe you could Google it.... conversing

@ armars - I remember my father used to have a 20 litre drum where he stored his arc-welding rods and he had a 40 watt light bulb fitted onto the inside of the lid and this was kept switched on 24/7..... thumbs up

...... grin cheers
the whole thing is set in resin ....I thought that a higher wattage unit could be used ....its a shame , every thing else works fine , I'm very careful at getting it warmed up befor staring the unit ..but the second the last time I used it ....I noticed a red light was not on , and like a house of cards the failures that followed in the part continued till it worked no more or till I turned off the power ....wave
epilogue : .....= the new part has landed in my country , and has got through customs and on to DHL dispatch , but that's at the other end of our country .....that means it might get here next week .....cheering
