Hypocrisy much?...

... Attended a board meeting of our local food coop, just to see how it runs. One of the local Native American tribes are the Wabanaki. At the start of the meeting, all are invited to make a brief statement. This one guy says that we are all living on Wabanaki land. Now he's a farmer, who works this land. I'm told he is also a trust fund recipient, who thus was able to buy the farm, now in his ownership. Lean, tall, north European looking, pony tailed, with the usual snowflake-millennial liberal sneering tone. The noble savage had no concept of land ownership, but would likely protest if you took his piece pipe, blade or moccasins. He easily would have slit the throat of such a thief. Lack of a sense of ownership, and peaceful coexistence. Sure. Next time, I might ask if he's given any reparations for his culturally stipulated later day expropriation.

Stages in life.

Rearranging the apartments in the Aa mansion, and moved the vintage stereo stuff. Had to rewire speakers. In the past, when splicing wires, used solder. But now merely wound and taped them. Really works just as well, but was thinking that life is short while doing so. Happening with many things. Compulsion vs. practicality.

A day in America, Another Shooting

Going to the Gilroy Garlic Festival in San Jose CA has been on my bucket list for awhile now. I learned they had a shooting there yesterday when I opened Facebook and saw one of my friends "checked in safe". A six year old boy was shot dead along with two others who haven't been identified yet. The shooter did a suicide by cops. Good for him. There are not sure if there is a second suspected gunman but they are looking.

Only in America the land of shootings.

Genderization....

....have even seen it in my own neighborhood. When we got this tiny coastal home, some three decades ago, then as a summer home, our neighbors typically were self sufficient working class. Indeed, that was a big attraction to our proletarian sensibilities and backgrounds. But thanks to the rapid growth in wealth inequality, and an estate agent class willing to exploit such, our neighbors are now typically very well heeled, with attitudes to match. Long ago, folks here did much for themselves. House maintenance, sewing clothes, gardening and "putting up" food for winter,--- even their own roofing, plumbing and electrical work. Most newbies couldn't swing a hammer, or turn a wrench, if their lives depended on it, which incidentally may happen in our lifetimes. Often, the new arrivals hail from Manhattan, or Californicateya, bought a bungalow/rent control place after the War for peanuts, and sold it more recently for the obscenely big bucks, with which ocean property here can be had for much less. Added benefit, escape from the deterioration in quality of life in the old haunts, with recent democrat led demographic shifts. And it all sems to be a worldwide phenomenon, with local cultural nuanced differences, with realtors still very much in tow, but also abbetted by Air B'n B and Uber. Hopeless, but perhaps not serious.

Films that seem to help us....

Get back on track. Or get there for the first time. Called epiphanies, such films are only one type of such really important items. Often serendipitous. Sometimes like a slap up side the head. Often bringing on tears. Sadly, after the initial warm and fuzzies, many of us simply jump right back onto the Mandela. Recently, I've met a number of folks for whom such an experience took the form of a pilgrimage, of any number of religious traditions. Oddly, I had been considering making such a trek, and running into, one after another, folks who had recently done the one I'm considering. Then a friend placed a film on the topic in my hands. After all the tears, just hope I keep the high, using it to grow, rather than stagnate.

Free green card

Looking to make the move and live in a new place for a while? If you pick sensibly, you might just get paid to do it.

Smaller cities and towns in the US are offering relocation packages to lure new people to come and live in them.

Also referred to as worker relocation incentive programmes, these financial schemes can be found across America and all share a common goal: attract people with geographically flexible jobs by offering them money and other perks, such as free gym memberships, co-working spaces and even a sit-down meal with the mayor, reports CNN.

OxyContin

If you are curious to know how OxyContin became the #1 addiction pill then you should watch a movie on Netflix called PainKiller that explains it. It started out as a pain killer for people with cancer and serious pain from surgery but it turned into something else when doctor's kept prescribing higher and higher doses which filled their bank account balance higher and higher.
