# Diabetes prevention: 4 tips for taking control

#Changing your lifestyle could be a big step toward diabetes prevention — and it's never too late to start. Consider these tips.

Lifestyle changes can help prevent the onset of type 2 diabetes, the most common form of the disease. Prevention is especially important if you're currently at an increased risk of type 2 diabetes because of excess weight or obesity, high cholesterol, or a family history of diabetes.
If you have been diagnosed with prediabetes — high blood sugar that doesn't reach the threshold of a diabetes diagnosis — lifestyle changes can prevent or delay the onset of disease.
Making a few changes in your lifestyle now may help you avoid the serious health complications of diabetes in the future, such as nerve, kidney and heart damage. It's never too late to start.
1. Lose extra weight
Losing weight reduces the risk of diabetes. People in one large study reduced their risk of developing diabetes by almost 60% after losing approximately 7% of their body weight with changes in exercise and diet.
The American Diabetes Association recommends that people with prediabetes lose at least 7% to 10% of their body weight to prevent disease progression. More weight loss will translate into even greater benefits.
Set a weight-loss goal based on your current body weight. Talk to your doctor about reasonable short-term goals and expectations, such as a losing 1 to 2 pounds a week.
2. Be more physically active
There are many benefits to regular physical activity. Exercise can help you:
Lose weight
Lower your blood sugar
Boost your sensitivity to insulin — which helps keep your blood sugar within a normal range
Goals for most adults to promote weight loss and maintain a healthy weight include:
Aerobic exercise. Aim for 30 minutes or more of moderate to vigorous aerobic exercise — such as brisk walking, swimming, biking or running — on most days for a total of at least 150 minutes a week.
Resistance exercise. Resistance exercise — at least 2 to 3 times a week — increases your strength, balance and ability to maintain an active life. Resistance training includes weightlifting, yoga and calisthenics.
Limited inactivity. Breaking up long bouts of inactivity, such as sitting at the computer, can help control blood sugar levels. Take a few minutes to stand, walk around or do some light activity every 30 minutes.
3. Eat healthy plant foods
Plants provide vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates in your diet. Carbohydrates include sugars and starches — the energy sources for your body — and fiber. Dietary fiber, also known as roughage or bulk, is the part of plant foods your body can't digest or absorb.
Fiber-rich foods promote weight loss and lower the risk of diabetes. Eat a variety of healthy, fiber-rich foods, which include:
Fruits, such as tomatoes, peppers and fruit from trees
Nonstarchy vegetables, such as leafy greens, broccoli and cauliflower
Legumes, such as beans, chickpeas and lentils
Whole grains, such as whole-wheat pasta and bread, whole-grain rice, whole oats, and quinoa
The benefits of fiber include:
Slowing the absorption of sugars and lowering blood sugar levels
Interfering with the absorption of dietary fat and cholesterol
Managing other risk factors that affect heart health, such as blood pressure and inflammation
Helping you eat less because fiber-rich foods are more filling and energy rich
Avoid foods that are "bad carbohydrates" — high in sugar with little fiber or nutrients: white bread and pastries, pasta from white flour, fruit juices, and processed foods with sugar or high-fructose corn syrup.
4. Eat healthy fats
Fatty foods are high in calories and should be eaten in moderation. To help lose and manage weight, your diet should include a variety of foods with unsaturated fats, sometimes called "good fats."
Unsaturated fats.

Well, it's over.

Yeah, I knew it couldn't last forever.
Some said it lasted longer than they expected.
To be honest I just knew it would end.
Still, there's some lament in the finality of it.

Sure, there will be others in the future.
But, probably not for a while.
I'd like to take a break and not get involved right now.

Regardless, I have to face it, whether I like it or not.
I have to accept it.

The softball season is now over for this year. sigh

No big deal. I can use the break until next spring.

What ? dunno

Sini vs Inis (Disobedient vs Obedient)

There are only two types of children in this world:
- The Ignorant
- The Acknowledging

Now The Ignorant have many subcategories, determined by the level of disobedience and ignorance they apply in their daily lives. However, there is only one level for Acknowledgement, but being constant is where it increasess. It is that simple, what makes it hard is what the World offers now and what you have been trained or brought to acknowledge which is this world and Nothing in Heaven. It's so enticing that you get easily distracted. What you consider the norm in your life, can not be said the same for Heaven. Now if you heeded Christs words, "Give up all that you posses" that would also pertain to family, friends and loved ones. Because these things you value most more than god even by your actions alone dictate this to be fact. Give up your family from this world so that you can Love The Family of Heaven. Do youu not acknowledge them more because it is just how you have been taught. How hard is it to sever that bond?

But that is the speck of dust that has chipped off from the beam in one's own eye, many things you love in this world that you have been taught to embrace as what you think is Heavenly. It is so simple to connect with Heaven but so hard to let go of this world to do it, for you...

99% of the world's population are ignorant of Him because they know not a thing about HOW to Acknowledge The One, or intentionally choose not to. IF you Loved God you could turn an apple into a horse or a horse into an apple, and it would be delicious, the apple not the horse. grin This is what it means to be truly loving because you Acknowledge Him His way instead of yours. I have yet to meet another person who knows how to love god, without uttering the word 'love'.

IF someone said to me I love god with all my heart I would say, "prove it." "show me the gates of Heaven" now the person can say, "I have nothing to prove to you!" and this is very true its a GOD given right. But at a monumental epic cost, your soul. To deny ANY of His Children the Gates is to deny oneself the same privilege, even more so if he is fiercely regarded by the Father Himself. What God would do is replace the one who denied His Own Child.

If someone else said to me, "You first." Then I would smile nod my head and walk away. Because again they have denied The Child. Its just like the first person who denied him.

There are many ways to approach this all end in denial of The Father. It is a sure way to ignore Him of that I have no doubt. But only one way to Acknowledge Him. By showing me The Gates.

Now if someone said to me, "I do not know how," then I would say, "would you like to start?"
peace

There is much to speak about but Im bored.

Still jet-lagged :-(

Been back in Omaha for 11 days now but I am still suffering from jet-lag. Thankfully, I don’t need to get back to work and my Spring classes at the Community College only start on the second week of March.

I left for KL airport on the early morning of Feb 9th, around 4am. Flight to Narita airport ( first leg of my journey ) was delayed for almost an hour and a half and because of that, I had to run to catch my connecting flight to Houston! Had a 5-hr layover in Houston and it was almost 10pm when
I got into Omaha and 11pm when I finally got home.

Had one of the best Mexican food the following night.

I know Chinese New Year 2023 was officially over on Feb 5th but I had promised my Malaysian friends here in Omaha that I’ll have small get-together once I’m back from my Malaysian trip.

As promised, I made the ‘Prosperity Toss’ for my friends. Not too shabby for first attempt.

Was invited to a CNY party while I was in my hometown. A ‘Prosperity Toss’ with a twist, not your usual Yu-sheng.

Another one on the second day of CNY. Just like the one at my mom’s, this was store-bought too. This was at my ex-husband’s aunt’s house. She’s a Malaysian-Indian but thought it was fun to celebrate CNY with me since she hadn’t seen me ever since I left for the States.

Apart from the ‘Prosperity Toss’, I made nasi lemak ( our Malaysian national dish ) too for my friends. I brought back half a kilo ( I bought 2 kilos but had to leave the rest behind coz my 2 big luggages was filled to the brim!! ) of dried anchovies and deep-fried them and my friends went crazy! Lol Art hated the smell of the anchovies that permeated through the whole house ( basement too! laugh ) when I deep-fried them and I told my friends they better appreciate my efforts coz them darn anchovies nearly cost me my marriage! rolling on the floor laughing

My friend posted our get-together on her FB page. ‘Kecoh’ means noisy, fuss, excitement or all that into one! Lol It’s true, when we Malaysian women get together, there’d be non-stop talking, eating and laughter, laugh Art always describes us as cackling hens!

Well, I’m looking forward to my next adventure, an European adventure perhaps? cool

Spring ready, both Art and MiMi!! applause
