the pink tax

The Pink Tax is not actually a tax but rather a system of discriminatory pricing on products and services that is based on gender. The Pink Tax costs the average woman over $1,300 a year and impacts all aspects of daily life from shopping to dry cleaning.

Gender-specific pricing (where items for women cost more than items for men) is often referred to as the “Pink Tax.” Manufacturers firmly entrench female consumers in their gender-normative sales practices with the use of bright pink or purple packaging, and sweet scents like peony, vanilla and even “fruity bubble in paradise” to make sure women know the product is just for them.

Boris Johnson Resigns

Boris Johnson finally announced his resignation today admitting 'no-one is indispensable' - but is lining up a 'unity Cabinet' as he battles to stay in Downing Street for months longer.

In a statement in Downing Street, the PM tried to sound an upbeat tone as he confirmed his MPs 'clearly' want a change and his time in office will come to an end when a new Tory leader is installed.

Standing at the traditional podium and watched by wife Carrie, baby Romy and close aides, Mr Johnson said the situation was 'painful' and branded the move to oust him 'eccentric'.

But he pointed to his achievements since winning the huge landslide - such as the vaccine rollout, Brexit and coming to the aid of Ukraine.

He said his message to voters who delivered his 2019 landslide was 'thank you for that incredible mandate', adding the 'reason I have fought so hard' was because he felt it was his 'job' to deliver what he promised.

'I want you to know how sad I am to be giving up the best job in the world, but them's the breaks,' he said.

Mr Johnson blamed 'powerful herd instinct' for his ousting, saying: 'In the last few days, I tried to persuade my colleagues that it would be eccentric to change governments when we're delivering so much and when we have such a vast mandate and when we're actually only a handful of points behind in the polls, even in mid-term after quite a few months of pretty relentless sledging and when the economic scene is so difficult domestically and internationally.

'I regret not to have been successful in those arguments and of course it's painful not to be able to see through so many ideas and projects myself.

'But as we have seen at Westminster the herd instinct is powerful, when the herd moves, it moves.

'And my friends in politics, no one is remotely indispensable and our brilliant and Darwinian system will produce another leader, equally committed to taking this country forward through tough times.'

Mr Johnson paid tribute to his family for 'all they have put up with', in a nod to the succession of scandals that have blighted his premiership.

'Our future is golden,' he finished.

World Chocolate Day is just around the corner and all chocolate lovers just cannot keep calm. Celebrated on 7 July, this occasion is the perfect day to indulge in the sweet (or bitter, if you are a dark chocolate fan) treat without any guilty feelings.
All of us have our favourite chocolate flavours. While some prefer the bitter taste of dark chocolate, others cannot live without peanut butter flavoured bars. But did you know there are some flavours of this sweet dessert that would put Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory to shame? Here are 5 interesting chocolate flavours you can try this year ahead of Chocolate Day:

Wasabi chocolate:

Many people will be surprised to see this spicy condiment in chocolates. But don’t let any first impressions put you off. Wasabi, also called Japanese horseradish, has several health benefits. Combining the pungent plant with chocolate creates a great treat for anyone how can tolerate a little bit of heat in their dessert.

Chai chocolate:

This one might be the perfect snack for you if you love chai. Chai chocolate adds the original flavour of the beverage to the goodness of chocolate. Not only that, spices like cloves, cinnamon and ginger are also present in this dessert.

Thyme chocolate:

Chocolate and herbs are a combo that might not strike most of us as tasty. But thyme-flavoured chocolate is a bit different. The bitter taste of the herb will enhance the sweetness of the chocolate and leave you wanting more.

Sea salt chocolate:

The idea of mixing sea salt and chocolate might seem strange at first. But just take a bite of this treat and you will not be able to stop yourself from raving about it. The addition of the sea salt crystals actually dilutes the sweetness of the chocolate, making it a perfect gift for someone who is not too fond of sugar.

Camel milk chocolate:

Several chocolate companies, including Amul, have launched this product to capitalise on the benefits of camel milk. Daily consumption of camel milk is believed to prevent diabetes, cancer, heart disease and blood sugar control. A chocolate created out of this rare and nutritious drink is sure to leave your taste buds delighted and your vitals in better condition.

Former United States of America Congressman and Philadelphia’s political operative has just pleaded guilty to election fraud charges brought against him. United States Attorney Jennifer Arbittier Williams Announced today that former US Congression Michael “Ozzie” Myers, 79, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania pleaded guilty to conspiracy to deprive voters of civil rights, bribery, obstruction of justice, falsification of voting records, and conspiracy to illegally vote in a federal election.

A specific example is when Myers admitted in court to driving the judge of elections in South Philadelphia, Dominick J. Demuro, and a fraudulent scheme over several years.

Judge Dominic Demuro, who was charged separately from Judge Myers also had pleaded guilty, would certify fraudulent voting machine receipts as valid after adding fake votes for various candidates for Democrats as well who had hired Myers for so-called consultancy services in Pennsylvania.

Shark attack...

I read a story last week about a 17 year old girl who was attacked by a shark while scalloping in shallow waters off the coast of Keaton Beach, not far from Tallahassee, Florida. That area is called the panhandle and faces the Gulf of Mexico.
The girl's brother a firefighter, managed to fend off the shark and provide emergency medical support after pulling her to safety. There were no reports about the extent of damage to her upper leg and her condition... only a photo of her in a hospital bed with her brother by her side.
I'm think how bad was it? reconstructive surgery? chance of infection?
The news report was very weak and gave no additional information.

I see she's scheduled to undergo amputation today.

The lead.......

leaded gasoline still available?
After decades of international pressure by a UN group, leaded gasoline is no longer being produced. The last leaded fuel has finally disappeared from gas stations. The last country in the world to sell it: Algeria

Leaded gas was commonly used many years ago but it was discovered that lead has undesirable side effects when lead is released into the air. Leaded gas was found to be harmful to the environment and humanity which resulted in the production of unleaded gas. You won't find leaded gas at the pump.

Leaded gasoline was gradually taken off the U.S. market

A combination of health and environmental concerns led to a ban on the sale of leaded gasoline for most uses in the United States. Mid-grade gasoline was introduced in 1986 as the United States began phasing out leaded gasoline.

who were alive prior to banning leaded gasoline all have small amounts of lead in their bodies, tied up in the bones, from the tetraethyl lead.
