Afghanistan failure in 1842 - Deja Vue

I am rereading the diary of one of in my opinion the best female role models. Lady Sale's "Journal of the Disaster" Afghanistan in 1842.

She kept a diary before during and after the fall of the puppet government England had set up in Afghanistan. Amazingly when she finally offered herself up to the insurgent warlord in return for his sparing the remaining women and children of the English colony he not only allowed her to continue to keep a diary, but also allowed extracts of it to be mailed (somehow) to her husband in England who forwarded it to English newspapers whose readers read every word. So much of it could be ripped from today's headlines.
That the withdrawal of the English soldiers from Afghanistan was not a concern, the reassurances to the (doomed) European populace of Kabul that the government has the rebellion well in hand. The Afghan government has the rebels on the run and any day now the last of them will be caught, that the Afghan military trained by the English is perfectly capable of dealing with the insurgency and English soldiers can be withdrawn. Her recounting of trusted supportive Afghan soldiers suddenly shooting or stabbing English soldiers they patrolled with in the back has such an air of familiarity. Her diary goes on one day from discussing her current and planned vegetable garden, a comparison of local vegetables and fruits to those of England, her plans to live with her husband (an English Officer withdrawn to Jalamabad and then to England) when he gets out of the service, to the very next day hordes of insurgents invading Kabul and murdering her friends and children on the street with fighting everywhere in the city and houses burning, Her words that evening as she recounts the shattered promises of the English Lords in Parliament and the assurances of the British envoy to the Shah about how Kabul is safe and any thought of leaving Afghanistan is silly they just seethe with anger. Much of her day was spent with her daughter trying to staunch the blood flow of the many stab wounds her son in law had received whtn visiting the Shah's palace to find out what was going on and also to keep him from choking to death on his own blood.
I wish Biden had been required to read her journal. It is a little graphic and she is pretty pragmatic and matter of fact in her writing after watching for several days from the walls of the English cantonment as friends and families of friends die fighting or fleeing. Every single mistake England made in 1842 is both laid out in her journal, but also repeated by President Biden.
The siege of the British fort in Kabul continues for weeks before a military convoy sets out on foot with all 16,000 Europeans from Kabul. Only 1 made it to Jalamabad everyone else killed or enslaved (including Lady Sales) en route. Ultimately her husband participates in a military return and rescues her from the pre-Taliban insurgent who has been keeping her and some other English women. Upon her return to England she verifies the accounts published in the English newsletters are indeed her letters and not those of some scrub women hired to fake letters from her for her husband to give to anti government media persons. Upon his death in continued fighting in Afghanistan the Parliament gives her a pension for life and a free apartment near Hyde Park. She also publishes the entirety of the journal which severely chastises the English military for ineptitude in how the withdrawal was handled and the abandonment of the murdered English women and children and England's outnumbered abandoned soldiers in the different provinces with no ammunition supplies of stockpiles of food nor plans to reinforce them before their garrisons fell. That is the book I am reading.
Later after some thus accused accuse her of being of low virtue because she traded herself to save the lives of the other women and their children she left England and died of a fever years later in Africa,

Left or Right

"Left or Right.
Liberal or Conservative.
Democrat or Republican.
And don’t mess with Mister In-Between.

The Left-Right, them-or-us, all-or-nothing dichotomy is what Philosophers call a false dilemma.

That’s when you claim that there are only two options, and it’s an either/or choice.
“Either you’re with us, or you’re with the terrorists.”
Well, pardon me, but I don’t have to be with you OR with “the terrorists” (assuming for the moment that there’s a difference between those two things).
There may be an infinite range of choices between those two extremes. Indeed, they're almost always is — and I say “almost” only because, although I don’t know of an exception, I accept the theoretical possibility that there might be one, and, no, whatever you’re thinking isn't

Anyone who takes a close look at governments around the world and over time will discover that even though so-called “communism” and fascism are supposed to be polar opposites on the left-right scale, in practice, they look a whole lot alike. Indeed, almost indistinguishable. In both cases, someone you don’t know has decided to tell you how you must live your life, and your job is to shut up and do what you’re told, or ELSE. No critical thinking is required. In fact, it’s not allowed.

The Right and the Left may fight about which of them is going to get to tell you what to do, but NEITHER of them is arguing that you should decide for yourself.
I submit that the left-right paradigm we are sold is a scam.
It doesn’t matter which tie you buy; your money is still going into the pocket of the same salesman.
"

Using this model, government control — whether you want to call it communism, fascism or any-other-f*cking-ism — is all on the same end of the scale. Individual freedom is at the opposite end.
Everything in between is some kind of compromise, and there are innumerable possibilities.

The real history of the Taliban - They were NOT the Mujahadin, for one thing.

THis is a twitter thread that talsk about the real history of Afghanistan and where the various factions came from from. I think people might enjoy some real history from an exert in the area.

Taliban Thread 1/

Now as Taliban are taking over Afghanistan (again) we need to look at Taliban. Some are saying the Taliban kicked out the Soviet Union from Afghanistan (totally untrue). So let's do this properly. Who are the Taliban vs Mujahideen vs Pashtu vs Afghan.. yeah :-)

Today on Twitter we see noise from people new to Twitter trying to argue their viewpoints. I've FREQUENTLY discussed problems of Afghanistan like this in ... YEAR 2011 ten YEARS ago
3/

I have visited 117 countries in my life so far. I have not yet been to Afghanistan. But I've been to its neighbor, Pakistan & Pashtu region, which borders Afghanistan. I've met many Afghans. I received this Pashtu traditional kurta as a gift (photo in Malaysia)
4/

There are Maganutters, War-mongering Repulsicans and Saudi bots on the rampage now, attempting to extinguish the Saudi connection to the Taliban. So this Thread is necessary. We need to understand. But we go to the beginning. That is the only way to understand

The most valuable road for human economic history, for over 3,000 years was the Silk Road, or more accurately Jade Road. It connected the largest landmass, Eurasia, where most of the planet's population live, allowed Europe to trade with China, & all in middle
Taliban Thread 6/

Silk Road is not one road, it is a series of roads. One side-road leads to India. That road goes through the mountains, through the ONLY pass, called Khyber Pass. This was the most valuable choke point until the modern shipping. Was the 'Suez Canal' of its age
Taliban Thread 7/

As Khyber Pass was the only mountain pass to India, you can imagine it was a rich opportunity for bandits. Those enterprising land pirates became known as the Pashtu. Draw a circle 100 miles around this pass, you have region the size of the state of Virginia
Taliban Thread 8/

So for CENTURIES, the Pashtu people were known to collect their fees from travellers on the Silk Road. And nobody was able to take this region from them. Literally, none of the great empires ever succeeded from Alexander the Great to Genghis Khan.
Taliban Thread 9/

That gives a firm foundation to build a warrior nation. The Pashtu. They are Muslim, but not like neighboring Iran, who are Shia, the Pashtu are Sunni Muslim, so they align with Saudi Arabia and against Iran. Bear this in mind, with the propaganda parrots
10/

In the last 200 years, the main Empires that faced off, on both sides of the Khyber Pass were the British Empire (in India, South) and the Russian Empire (North). Afghanistan emerged as the buffer nation between these two. It is 5 miles West of the Khyber pass
11/

Afghanistan is far larger than the Pashtu region, about the same size as Texas in area. But HALF of Aghan population are Pashtu. There is no other dominant ethnic group, so Pashtu people get to rule Afghanistan. Afghanistan population is about 32 million
12/

From the early 1800s, the rulers of Afghanistan have played The Great Game, pitting Russian & British rulers against each other & temporarily siding with whoever was the weaker

Pashtu are EXPERTS at pretending to be on your side, while being on their OWN side

Factcheck - Liars Lying about Lying

Factcheck.org -- A Fraudulent "Fact Check" Site Funded By Biased Political Group

If you wanted to use a devious method to deceive people who are trying to differentiate between truth and lies on the Internet how would you do it? If you were extremely devious and had no conscience, you might set up a Web site with some official and unbiased sounding name that claims to be the encyclopedia of truth to be used as a tool for anyone who has the same biased view and wants to make believe to "back it up" with what they would like you to think is "indisputable fact."

That is exactly what Web sites like factcheck.org are. They are biased, politically motivated propaganda Web sites, manned and funded by biased political organizations who set up the sites for the sole purpose of deviously "backing up" the political arguments of those who hold the same views that they do. It's kind of like you have a friend who is in on your lie, and you use him to back up your story and don't tell anyone else he is your friend.

Just because they use a name that implies unbiased assessments, doesn't mean that they provide them. You can call your Web site anything you want. I can set up a web site called thetruth.org or realfacts.com or stopthelies.org and post any kind of biased political propaganda I want on it. The name means nothing. And in the case of sites like factcheck.org, the name is intentionally misleading and deceptive. But it isn't the only so called "fact check" site that is a fraud. There are others.

Think about it. Would you rely on any particular Web site to get the "truth?" Anyone honest would tell you that you should NOT rely solely on them to get your facts. You should get them by considering many different and sources, with different points of view and opinions and arrive at what you believe to be the truth by using your own God given senses. Only con artists purport to be the de facto source of truth.

If you look behind the scenes at these phony "fact check" sites, you find that they are funded by organizations with political biases. You must always ask yourself. Who is writing about this so-called "truth." Who funds the site and pays their expenses. What are the origins and history of the funders and who are they associated with. In the case of factcheck.org they receive their funding from the liberal Annenberg Foundation.

The Annenberg Foundation was originally founded by Walter J. Annenberg, a conservative who supported Ronald Reagan. However, when Walter Annenberg died, his family took over the management of the foundation and it took a turn to the far left and has ties to radical left individuals such as Bill Ayers and his friend and fellow left wing radical collegue Barack Obama. How is factcheck.org associated with these people:
....
Ayers co-chaired the organization’s Collaborative, which set the education policies of the Challenge. Oddly enough, Obama was the one who was authorized to delegate to the Collaborative in regards to its programs and projects. In addition to that, Obama often times had to seek advice and assistance from the Ayer’s led Collaborative in regards to the programmatic aspects of grant proposals. Ayers even sat on the same board as Obama as an “ex officio member”. They both also sat together on the board of the CAC’s Governance Committee. Obama and Ayers were two parts of a group of four who were instructed to draft the bylaws that would govern the CAC. Keep in mind that the “A” in CAC is for Annenberg, the owners of FactCheck.org. The funding for Ayer’s projects and those of his cronies was approved by Board Chair, Barack Obama.
