I Read with complete bewilderment that, Muntazer al-Zaidi, the Iraqi journalist who threw his shoe at President Bush has been given a 3 year prison sentence?
Despite his legal team claiming that his punishment is not in accordance with the law and have every intention to appeal against the decision some are arguing that the sentence itself was politically motivated?

In view of the present political climate I think Bush has been rather fortunate for it to have been only a shoe that had his name on it!

What are your thoughts and opinions?

Mercedes1: .....Both the mother and her lover are awaiting sentencing but, unfortunately, are not charged with murder as the true cause of the infant’s death could not be established.....

I bet they get less of a sentence then 3 years...

Justice?

Doesn't sound like it to me.

I still think that whole scene was staged by Dubya himself! laugh

Dubya paid the journalist to do it because he didn't want to answer any questions. laugh

I was really impressed by Bush's reactions in ducking. Those shoes were thrown fast. It was the only thing that impressed me in his Presidency but I just want to be fair....at least it wasn't all negative! laugh

I'm more curious as to what the penalty would have been had an American citizen did the same to him in the U.S. .

I cannot help but to think the punishment would have been more severe.

I agree.

There should be a Nuernberg trial for him and his administration!

Careful. While I understand the sentiment, such statements can be misconstrued as threats.

Richard Humphreys of Portland, Oregon got three years in prison for talking about a "burning bush" while Bush was in the city, and Humphreys was making a religious reference, not a threat.

My thoughts are whether you believe in a person's beliefs and politics you should respect the office they are in. I am against all violence even if it is only a shoe. Violence only causes someone else to respond.
