I've gone two days without sleeping...bad travel from Frisco to Stockholm and to my city.

I bring this up because I did not sleep at all last night...and going on 29 hours now. Apparently things a bit slow right now upstairs with my cognitive skills lol

Apparently my body can just handle not sleeping for a day once in a while cause it's happened more than once. I do it sometimes to force myself to get to bed earlier and get up earlier. I guess I am just a serious night person. Don't know what the deal is, but that is how I am. I used to sleep in till noon as a 10 year old kid.

What about you CS heads? I think I heard mindfful say that she went 4 days or something without sleeping? Wow.

Going with out sleep is not something I do by choice but if I'm on a search and rescue I don't have a choice. The last one I was on was 42 hours. It took me three days to recover from that one!
I'm not as young as I used to be! laugh

My longest period without sleeping was when I was in the Army, out at the Language Institute. It was my weekend for guard duty, so I stood guard Friday night after being in classes all day, then took newbies out to show them around Saturday, posted guard again Saturday night, and took the other half of the newbies out to show them around Sunday. Guard duty again Sunday night...Monday excused from class because of it, so I slept like a log for the next 48 hours (yes, missed class Tuesday). My Sgt actually held a mirror under my nose to confirm that I was breathing, and had my roommate stay with me Tuesday because they were so concerned. laugh

I've never added up the hours....but it was from 4:30 am Friday until 6:00 am Monday w/o sleep.

Okay Stress I know you are a vampirelaugh

I am beginning to join you...

Try a herbal tea no caffeine before bed and fresh sheets with lavender after a hot bath...

Routine Stress would help...

Three days, two consecutive nights in The Hindu Kush.
A combination of altitude and no available flat ground
led to two sleepless nights followed by three very
strenuous days.
Even after that, my sleep was very fitful for some
time afterwards.

I've heard that you can't actually "catch up" on sleep you've lost. Wonder if that's true... confused

It was 68 hours for me but I must stress I was not at anything psychical. I was studying literature and on my PC.
I slept solid for 12 straight hours and then fell back to sleep for another 11 hours. It wouldn't be healthy to be doing that. Our bodies need at least six hours complete shutdown per day. So a GP will tell you.

I've discovered that it's very possible to be awake for two days, sleep for about 12-18 hours, then stay up for another two days. Fascinating research going on here.

Yes and there is also a condition were people can not sleep and die from it. You need sleep to be healthy. I have trouble sleeping and sometimes I look like something the cat dragged in.
You need routine..but as you get older..insomnia sets in...time for a cat nap.

The best and most natural way to deal with sleep deregulation due to jet lag is Melatonin.

It's the natural product that regulates day-night activities for all living things, both plants and animals.

The brain creates and stocks melatonin during daylight hours and releases it at the normal sleep time, and it brings on the onset of sleep.

It's not a true sedative because it clears out of the blood very quickly. An hour after its released (or taken as a sleep aid) it's gone from the body.
It just brings on the onset of sleep and then it's function is finished and it's flushed out of the system.

If you take it at the time you want to go to sleep for several days in a row it will not only help you to go to sleep, it will reset your natural sleep clock to the desired time.

Possible, but not good for you.

You can totally lose your natural rhythms that way and find yourself waking up every night at 2AM ready for a new day, but then desperately needing to sleep at 4 PM.

All your harmones, enzymes, and neurotransmitters will be on the wrong schedule too.

Yeah Ray, I've noticed that. The only way for me to get back on a normal sleeping pattern and to get up early in the morning and go to bed at a decent hour at night is to stay up for a day. Then I'm good until that one night I become a vampire again or just sleep in.

I can adjust back quickly, but it does take discipline. I've tried some binaural beats to align my brainwaves with the delta frequency---usually works and gets me sleepy fast. But damn does it produce some powerful dreams.

That has happened before, getting up like 2-3 in the morning and ready for bed around 4 pm. I force myself to stay up to about 10 or so and I'm good and back on a normal pattern.

I guess this happens when I miss more than two days of exercise. To be honest, I think I can really function okay by staying up for two days, then sleeping for about 18 hours, then up for two days again and sleep again for 18 hours or so. The thing is I have to stay in that rhythm to feel normal---or alive hahhaha. It is interesting though how I was able to pull that off a few times, and I looked fresh and awake---no dark or heavy bags under my eyes and I was able to work out and so on. Belief is power man. In any case, I don't like that shift though. Time becomes warped and really flies by. Hmmm...I don't know, must be this new galactic wave we are getting now hahahaha.

Thanks for the heads up.

Hi StressFree

People who know me, will tell you I hardly ever sleep more than two hours a night. LOL And I can go for days without sleep. But my energy levels are sky high. I was born like this, don't blame me! rolling on the floor laughing

Seriously though, despite what studies may indicate, some people just need less sleep than others. I know people who can't function with less that 10 hours sleep per night, and they have a hard time waking up. I wake up immediately active. LOL

1 hour meditation has proven the same effect on body and mind like 8 hours sleep. Not to mention what it does reg skin aging.
May worth trying out..

One hour a day? I can handle 20 minutes, but one hour is too long. What if I jog in the woods for 40 minutes plus the meditation? Nevermind, I know it works...just need to get back in that groove since baseball season for me starts soon. Judging by your pics, I believe you though...you look YOUNG! Will you marry me?
