Do you have a charity that wins over your heart?

One that you wish you could give enough money to so that the charity was no longer needed.

Would you care to tell us about it?

I give to St. Jude's Children Hospital. They provide treatment for children who have cancer and they never ask for money from the parents.

I'd have to say St.Jude's Children's Hospital as well snuggs. One of our local country radio stations was doing a teleton one evening. I'm glad I wasn't driving that particular evening cause hearing a little cancer patient make a plea in regards to sending money to St.Jude's just made me tear up.

I helped found and currently run our local food pantry. With all the disease out there, the one that is totally preventable is the one our country pays no attention to and that's the hunger of our own people. With all the food we send to other countries to help their starving people, our own country has forgotten about the hungry right here.

When we first opened, the majority of people receiving food from us were senior citizens living on a fixed income. Times are changing and now families with children have seriously out numbered the seniors who qualify for food assistance from us. It's a sad state of affairs when one's own country is more concerned with the stomachs of others rather than their own people.

back home there was a radio station that did thier own fund raiser every year, they called it the "roof sit" one of the morning djs got up on the roof of a local business and stayed there for three days. the point was to raise money for abused and neglected childern, the program every year was the hardest thing to listen to some of the storys just made you want to cry. I gave every year, as I was one of the lucky ones my parents both loved me and I never had to face what these people did, two years ago, I donated in memory of my grandfather, who pased away just before it, he took three abused childern into his home and adopted them, gave them everything he could and loved them as they were his own. A great man in my mind, and example I try to live up to every day.wine

You may remember that I told you last month my daughter's girlfriend died from cancer at the age of 41. My daughter is going to do the Avon Walk For Breast Cancer which is a 39 mile walk in New York.

I did a thread on CS but the mods pulled it because I didn't know that we aren't allowed to ask for money. So, I did as mothers do and made a large donation so that she will reach her goal.

If anyone wants the name of her website please ask me for it in private email.

I have a soft spot for homeless vets, but there's no charity around here for them. And I don't like giving out money cause I'm not supporting someone's drug or alcohol habit (and you never know what someone will spend the money on). But I will buy them something to eat and give it to them. thumbs up

thumbs up thumbs up I am with you there Lana. They served our country but our country (government) doesn't give a damn about them. It drives me crazy that we don't take care of our own.
