I love to communicate with people, but I adapt myself big time depending on the person I am communicating with as to how I get my thoughts, ideas and opinions across. I don't change how I think, but I do change how I say it. I am not a very physically affectionate person but more often than not I will put my hand on the arm of the person I am speaking with. On average 55% of communication is through non-verbal communication (body language). I speak with my hands. They are all over the place when I am talking. I speak with my facial expressions. When watching a video of myself on mute, I look like a walking moving muppet. Bearing that in mind, I began to realize how limited the communication is that I make through this online venue.

I need to hear to communicate. I love sound. I am a fairly good musician. I often relate a 'beat' or 'rhythm' in my head to all things. I need lots of background noise if I am working or studying. And I am so desperate to hear what most of you sound like. For those who are linguistically inclined, this online medium is fantastic. For others, whose strengths lie elsewhere, maybe it is a bit harder.

How best do you communicate, learn, live, be. What is your strongest intelligence? Teachers know their students' strongest MI (Multiple Intelligence, It helps in communication.

The theory of (MI) was proposed by Gardner in'83. Gardner claims that each individual has a kind of intelligence, and therefore may best learn through a different learning process.

The categories of intelligence are:

Bodily-kinesthetic
Bodily movement. These people usually learn better by getting up and moving around, and are generally good at physical activities such as sports or dance. In general, good at building and making things.

Interpersonal
Interaction with others. People who have a high interpersonal intelligence tend to be extroverts, characterized by their sensitivity to others' moods, feelings, temperaments and motivations, and their ability to cooperate in order to work as part of a group.

Verbal-linguistic
Words, spoken or written. Good with words and languages. They are typically good at reading, writing, telling stories and memorizing words along with dates. They tend to learn best by reading, taking notes, listening to lectures, and discussion and debate. Good at public speaking. .

Logical-mathematical
Logic, abstractions, reasoning, and numbers. It correlates strongly with traditional concepts of "intelligence" or IQ.

Naturalistic
Nature, nurturing and relating information to one's natural surroundings. Those with it are said to have greater sensitivity to nature and their place within it, the ability to nurture and grow things, and greater ease in dealing with animals.

Intrapersonal
Introspective and self-reflective capacities. Usually highly self-aware and capable of understanding their own emotions, goals and motivations. They often have an affinity for thought-based pursuits such as philosophy. Often a high level of perfectionism.
.
Visual-spatial
Vision and spatial judgment. Typically very good at visualizing and mentally manipulating objects. Often proficient at solving puzzles. Generally have a very good sense of direction and may also have very good hand-eye coordination. Often artists.

Musical
Rhythm, music, and hearing. Display greater sensitivity to sounds, rhythms, tones, and music. They normally have good pitch and may even have absolute pitch, and are able to sing, play musical instruments, and compose music. Since there is a strong auditory component to this intelligence, those who are strongest in it may learn best via lecture. Will often use songs or rhythms to learn and memorize information, and may work best with music playing in the background.

Which one are you?

Sorry, I know that was a long read.....

Now this I like, Imma.

Wow, what a great topic.

And no apology necessary.

As a teacher, I do try to put myself in my students' shoes and understand that they need some music to help them concentrate.

Yet, when I have been with them in study hall, I do read work from them, and it drives me nuts if I can hear other 'interruptions'

For me, when I am reading, I need to have complete silence and when I am marking, I shut myself away in my office and sit with the light dimmed so I am not disturbed.

I have to, I cannot have music on in my ears. I can only have music on when I am completely relaxed and not at work.

Yet in my classes, I can have any number of students, asking questions, and deal with the noise. Maybe because as a teacher, who is teaching a language, that I need to hear what they are saying and reading out to me, that I can manage it well. I can happily speak out with some vocab and speech and be comfortable in a room full of 200 people, and can speak.

What I am saying is that I can adapt to what is required of me.

But when I have to really concentrate on effort such as grading, I have to be able to concentrate.

And that means no interference. From any source. Music or anything that may disturb my equilibrium.

I would say I am a verbal/linguistic person.

Cool thread.

Very cool to hear how some have self-analyzed. I want to find the actual test that helps you determine which multiple intelligence is your strongest and will do so tomorrow to post. Right now, I am really really sleepy and need to be best friends with my pillow. wave

Hey Marki,

Bodily-kinesthetic
People who have this intelligence usually learn better by getting up and moving around, and are generally good at physical activities. Career choices: athletes, dancers, actors, surgeons, doctors, builders, and soldiers.

Logical-mathematical
Career choices: scientists, mathematicians, engineers, doctors and economists

Naturalistic (not in the original list by Gardner)
Careers that suit those with this intelligence include scientists, naturalists, conservationists, gardeners and farmers.

Intrapersonal
Careers that suit those with this intelligence include philosophers, psychologists, theologians, writers and scientists.

Visual-spatial
Careers that suit those with this intelligence include artists, engineers, and architects.

Maybe that will be of some interest to you. I hope it is.

Hi Kid,
It's a compliment. You are well-rounded. Most of us have a bit of everything, we just excel at some things. There is one chap who had strong intelligences in all categories and was just all round amazing. But nah...he'd be too high maintenance. laugh I have to dig up his name.

Hey Lovely Lady,

Funny, when I was putting together this post, there were some who I was guessing at....and I knew your forte would be linguistic/verbal. I would guess that teachers are natural linguistics or work very hard to be. I can speak a blue streak with my children at school but do still have a hard time when addressing adults. During my career as an Architectural Consultant, I had to make many presentations to groups of very serious people and I always felt quite sick doing so. I had to meditate before hand and always keep my hands occupied or hidden (to hide the shaking). I did alright as long as I remembered to breathe!!! Gosh, I still feel sick when I think about those presentations.

Thanks for your input. I enjoyed reading it.
