...and yet the repubs are jumping off the ship as the days go by
Veteran Republican Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania switched parties Tuesday with a suddenness that seemed to stun the Senate, a moderate's defection that pushed Democrats to within a vote of the 60 needed to overcome filibusters and enact President Barack Obama's top legislative priorities. Specter, 79 and seeking a sixth term in 2010, conceded bluntly that his chances of winning a Pennsylvania Republican primary next year were bleak in a party grown increasingly conservative. But he cast his decision as one of principle, rather than fueled by political ambition as spurned GOP leaders alleged. "I have found myself increasingly at odds with the Republican philosophy and more in line with the philosophy of the Democratic Party," he said at a news conference. He added, "I am not prepared to have my 29 year record in the United States Senate decided by the Pennsylvania Republican primary electorate."
i also see the stock market is moving in an upwards trend at the moment also...........
so long as he doesnt bring in gun reform, i think at the end of his first term, most of you are going to be happy with his presidency.........

Arlen Spector is a repeat offender. 30 years ago he was a dem who switched to republican after the jimmy carter debacle. This guy only cares about himself not his constituents. He will be voted out of office in 2010.

You mean, you don't care about yourself and wouldn't do what you need to do to keep your job?

Ummmm the last time I checked, the government was for the people by the people, not for Arlen Specter to decide when it's popular to be a Democrat or a Republican. It's people like him that is exactly what's wrong with our government.

Democrats and Republicans are two heads on the same body with feet that are walking in the same direction. This kind of B.S. has been going on in this country for Decades with no end in sight. Senators and Congressmen have been switching parties for at least the last 50 years. I know of at least 4 Dems that switched to the republican party in the 90's when Clinton was President, Arlen Specter did it 30 years ago, and Strom Thurman did it in the 60's.

There needs to be more political parties than just the Dems and Reps. And more people need to get involved in politics so they can understand who they're voting for before they vote.

jessejess47: exactly...
here in aus we have a huge amount of political parties from far right (one nation) to far left (greens)m heck why we even have a socialist alliance party!! now thats democratic!! lol.....
the greens are garnering more support gradually and as the generational changes come through, the greens will get more clout with the younger voters who will gradually change things than the main 2 parties of labor (kinda like your dems, and in office now)
and the coalition (liberal/national party like the repubs)
It is so funny to watch the Repubicans crying in public about foul play and not getting what they want. My advice to them: Get use to it. It is going to happen more and more.

Like they didn't do foul play in getting Bush into office.

But do remember... He who places self on highest pedestal, falls the furthest.
There is a lot of work needed to be done and many wolves licking their chops for an easy prey. Let's just hope the master plan doesn't make any drastic mistakes, else, the wolves will be feasting on the carcass. If that happens, the sheeples will be awakened and it won't look too pretty.
