Im no expert, but can you not just do a Systems Restart, and restore your computer settings to a restore point prior to when you deleted your photos?
I hate Vista, and every computer geek Ive spoken to agrees. It seems to be responsible for more mess ups than anything else. I bought my laptop last year with All Singing, All Dancing Vista. Within a few months, I had problems.
I got fed up with it, took it back to the shop and had it completely wiped, and XP put on. Its been perfect since. XP definately seems better and more reliable, in my humble opinion.
Good luck Wednesday - hope you get all your photos back!
Thank you for all who posted. I will check back this afternoon and play with it some more. I haven't turned my computer off. So, hopefully I can get to the files before they are re-written... modern technology
If she does not turn it off the files will be over written at least in part. She should have shut down the computer as soon as she realized she had deleted the pictures. Even a few hours running time greatly lowers the chance of getting data back.
Trust me on that I have done quite a bit of data recovery. It is one of the things I do to make a living.
If she has not taken a lot of photos since deleting the pictures from her camera that is still the best bet for recovering the images.
The proceedure is to make an image of the drive or flash media on a second computer then recover the data from that. There are quite a few temporary files made in the process and you can count on at least double the amount of data being written to the drive as you are recovering the data. Between the OS, installed software and document you might be easialy looking at close to 150 GB on her hard drive.
Chica, Go to your desktop and double click an icon that says "recycle bin" once you do that a window should open up. Look for an icon that says " restore all items" click it, and all your photos should be recovered into the original files. I hope this helps -D
Here's a great video (not one of mine) that shows how to restore deleted files, recover files from damaged/scratched CD/DVD's, from formatted hard drives, and from hard drives that won't boot.
Too many chiefs, and not enough Indians!! With 30+ years on build/repair...I've never seen so many solutions for one problems. Good luck, and hope you get your pictures back. Will be following this thread later...
Yay!! I was able to restore most of my pictures!! I had to buy software but it was only $40 and worth it. I didn't get everything back but it's better than nothing. Some of the files had already been re-written.

Wednesday74: OK, so I'm an idiot. No comments from the peanut gallery on that one. I just got Vista and so...I don't know where everything is. I was going thru some files and saw a whole list of "activity" and assumed it was the history. I deleted it, and followed-up and emptied the trash can. Well, awhile later, I realized that I had just deleted almost 500 pictures!! I deleted vacation pictures, my Daughter's graduation, etc.... I am so frustrated. I deleted the pictures out of my camera awhile ago so that is not an option. Is there some way to recover deleted files?? I saw some software online for sale. I really don't want to spend money. Just want my pictures back! Help!
I am going to bed but will check back later.
Do you have Go Back on your computer. Sometimes if you set it to a date before a problem, files you have deleted are recovered.
I would rather have XP. I think it is way more user friendly. I have never deleted anything important like pictures before. I'm not the brightest computer whiz but I know enough. Vista can be a little confusing as far as finding things. My advice to anyone who has Vista - be careful when deleting stuff. It may look harmless but doesn't mean it is. Windows 7 is coming out in the fall. I may switch.
