I am guilty of texting and talking whilst driving.

If I get a call, I generally ignore it now though, but if it's important and I am almost home, I answer it and have it on loudspeaker.

Texting I can do with one hand and with my eyes shut so it was easy to text without taking eyes off the road. However, after watching a recent ad online about a car crash while texting, I haven't text when driving since. Wake up call!

oolretaw: hi melty, i witnessed a classic accident in rockhampton. a young girl texting, drove her little car under a semi trailer, took the top clean off her car, luckily she threw herself flat on the seats and came out of it with just a few scratches.she dropped her phone and almost got down on the floor to find it, lucky her. but she got busted.
sounds bad. Some people think they are invincible. We all need to be careful

I was driving down Princes Highway (Victoria), just went through Blackburn Road, travelling towards Springvale, heading towards Westall Rd, lights were green, thankfully I decided to change lanes, from the centre to the left lane as I was turning off a little further down the road, this moron went straight through the red lights and missed me by millimetres!!
Needless to say the idiot was talking on his mobile phone!
THEY SHOULD BE TURNED OFF, AS SOON AS YOU START THE ENGINE!!
They are worse than a drink driver!

I am a ham radio operator, there is a HUGE difference to talking into a hand mike as opposed to talking on a mobile phone. I have NEVER lost concentration talking on the amateur radio bands while driving!

I'm with you Kizzy - I finally got a bluetooth. Wonderful gadget!!! Before that, I'd pullover onto the roadside to answer. It's simply not safe otherwise, I don't care how many things anyone claims they can do. Holding the phone and talking, txt'g is simply NOT safe!

It's illegal over here to both talk and text whilst driving. You get penalty points on your licence. I've been guilty myself but I have to admit if I watch someone talking on the phone while driving, they are all over the road.

don't believe everything you see online tho.. sometimes they get pics/footage of accidents and attributed it to whatever they want to, to make a point eg texting, talking on ph, fiddling with the radio, blah blah blah

I sometimes text while driving myself.. but like you lou I dont have to look at the phone to do it.. I know where the keys are! when I stop at traffic lights, I then check it to see if I have spelt everything right and then send it

as for talking in the phone.. I have a blueant handsfree do I dont need to hold my phone to talk..

lets hope technology catches up and allows handsfree to dictate text msgs as well grin
