Conrad73: So you're having another go at it? Last time it was about Quoting!
Hope springs eternal, Conrad. I'm O.k. with continuing to have my thoughts, and check forum subjects to see what others may be feeling and thinking. By Golly, I do believe that's what it's there for. I ask politely, I think carefully about others opinions, I don't call names or put anyone down for a difference of opinion, I try to use language and words that most people would "get", and looking back through some of the other things I have participated in, I've certainly been courteous and willing to even change my position when it is presented to me in an appropriate manner. What do you mean 'having another go at it?' This I do not "get". I'm participating on the forums, just like you. Are YOU having another 'go at it'?

Odysseus101: Yes, I totally agree....people using the technical advantage of referencing links instead of filling up pages of a thread with copy/paste quotations should be beaten with frozen noodles, drenched in cold fish soup, and made to sit at work in wet clothing....
well...okay, but that's not a problem as I'm a scuba diver

kitty01: I do not mind the links, I do not know how to post them but I do know how to use them.
kitty highlight what you want to copy. Next go to Edit and click on Copy. Next put your curser were you now want to put it. Go to Edit again and chose Copy.

rohaan: At last someone who understands. If I wanted to take the alternative and go to links (if I could) then talking to others on a forum would be kind of a waste of time, when I could just do the research myself. And why wouldn't the other posters WANT to actually "write" their own thoughts in real words? Isn't that what the forum is for? If I wanted gibberish that can be found without the forum. Thanks a million, Clara.
Jan1305: I usually open the music links, but like the OP, I prefer to read and respond to personal opinions rather than something which has been written by somebody else, even if it does reflect the posting members viewpoint.
However, I particularly dislike very long, internet copied and pasted posts. In such cases a link would be better, then I have the choice as to whether to read it or not.
The internet is undoubtedly useful, but not at the expense of ones own words and opinions.
Maybe it´s the teacher in me. I wouldn´t accept anything copied and pasted or plagiarised from a student. I want to read what they have to say, after researching internet sources if need be.
Hey Jan
I think links are very important, especially when there is an exchange of deeper thoughts in a very complicated or controversial subject. Links can be a great way to support your opinions, arguments, and theories. Statistics, polls, and scholastic studies are enriched with a broader truth and a structured hypothesis by competent people who broke down such opinions into a science that speak a truth or stretch a truth hahaha---we know how things can be skewed and of course it's prudent to consider the source.
In any case, I love to hear answers in an individual's own words instead of links or a paste and copy job, but sometimes that just not enough if it's some passionated blanket statement. In other words, opinions based on irrationality and biased-subjective thoughts are empty in my eyes. Back it up!
I click links 80 percent of the time. The times I don't click links if it's a subject where I know where it's going and don't need the links to show me what I already know or don't need to know...much like Conrad's anti-socialistic-Obama is going to turn America into Fascism or Ray's conspiracy links.
clara1956: While a link may undoubtedly prove to be an interesting source of support for a point of view, contain an illustrative example,or be thought- provoking enough to trigger discussion, I think Rohaan means he would like to see more of our personal opinions and points of view detailed here. Elaborating takes time, it`s true, but when you are kind enough to invest your time in putting your ideas (I was going to say "on paper")together for others to consider, you are sharing something that is uniquely yours with the rest of us, and we can see more of the valuable individual you are. It is in this sense that it is easier for some of us to keep a discussion going, because we feel we`re talking to real people.
I do enjoy reading different opinions, and especially appreciate it when somebody has devoted time to write a lengthy/illustrative message.
