RayfromUSA: Well you must admit it's handy.

And to be honest it's more reliable than most encyclopedias because there are an infinite number of potential editors waithing to pounce on any error.

The only place where Wikipedia is unreliable is on controversial subjects where various interest groups want to push through their opinions. For example the discussion of cults, or politics, or ethnic issues, or religion, or scams like global warming. In such subjects the articles get edited every day and Wikipedia often sets up a panel of reliable editors to limit the editing through a consensus process.

That seems to work pretty well.

Wikipedia can mess you up. That is why Colleges and Universities will not accept it as a reliable source. professor

You have to be very careful using it. I find most internet sources, short of subscriptions to academic databases, to be questionable. I love good old fashioned books, where people can be held accountable for what they write. Very unlike the internet where you publish anything you want and then totally reverse your publication the next day. No need to stand upon real evidence, you read it online. And that is good enough for here. giggle

I apologize for that kidatheart was saying that he was brave for being a atheist and I asked if he was so brave he ever went down on a girl with no finger check, he was too chicken to answer and I asked a 2nd time more directly, and 1 minute later thread gone.sorry about that.

Is it no wonder threads get pulled and are reported with some of the stuff that people post around here. Insulting, degrading and down right rude. I am not surprised they did pull, one of these religious threads was going to end up getting zappedwine

RayfromUSA: Jeesh, It's clear you never studied physics.

Let's talk about those cars.

They are moving at the speeds you mentioned relative to the earth beneath them, that's true.

But that earth beneath them is spinning at 1000 mph (at the equator), and it's also orbiting around the sun at many thousands of miles per hour, and along with the sun its orbiting around the center of the galaxy at thousands of miles per second, and the galaxcy is moving through space even much faster than that.

So if you want to talk about absolute speed, the cars are moving through space in complex loops according to the various orbits involved at incredible speeds, even when they are parked.
Yet, we consider them to be standing still.
That's because we only consider their movement relative to the ground beneath them.

Now, back to our rocket in deep space. There is no earth beneath it to relate to. And its velocity relative to the ground on earth, which is still spinning and orbiting in complex loops through space somewhere, no longer has any meaning at all.

The only speed we can assign to that spaceship is its speed relative to other objects. And that speed varies according to the object in question.

The spaceship might be absolutely motionless relative to one galaxy and, at the same time, moving at near the speed of light relative to another.

It has no speed of its own whatsoever except relative to other objects.

Understand now?
If not, don't worry about it.
I'm sure there are things you do understand.

But isn't it all relative to the speed at which it is flying out from the center of the universe? (The center being where the big bang originated)
