I dont belive in Anti-Depressants to treat depression. Anti-depressants just change the state of mind and how you respond to the depression it doesn't cure they problem. if someone is depressed deep down they know why they just have to admit the problem and face it head on and thats hard to do when your stoned on Anti-Depressants
The only time i think medication helps is if someone is Bi-Pola becuase thats a chemical imbalnce inside the brain.

I have been on anti depressants for 5 years and have never been "stoned" on them. I know what causes my depression, Seasonal Affective Disorder, and admitting and facing that as you put it will not cure it.
What the meds did do was help me rech a stage where I could function normally and see some light in life, which lead me to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, as result of this my meds dosage has been cut in half.

You make some thoughtful statements. After working in the medical-social field for over 30 years, please understand that there are few exact sciences. However, to their credit, many counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists treat their clients' depression by ---guess what?--keeping them BUSY. Especially in tasks and goals designed to help OTHERS. Seems to work. (Psychological medication is largely a bandage, not a cure...)

In response to: anybody has coments or experiences about this?
I should point out anyone using Seroxat, (paroxetine)please go back to your doctor and ask to change your medication, because the side effects are very very worrying.
People have been known to commit murder, suicide and variations of this type of behaviour with no knowledge of any crime they committed while taking the drugs, and they are the ones who survived!
So please anyone taking this type of Selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, please see their doctor and discuss taking another form of medication.
Under no circumstances stop taking any medication immediately without consulting your doctor, or the consequences can be very serious indeed.

Are you referring to the "Twinkie" defense? (I'll explain, if you don't understand...)

You can detail the case, i know of quite a few in the UK and all over Europe and basically everywhere the drug was distributed there were higher suicide rates and worrying episodes.
The most chilling case i read was an American mad who awoke in the street very confused confronted my police, as he was basically covered in blood.
The police entered to house to find the poor man wife who had if i remember correctly had been stabbed to death in a frenzy while asleep.
The man himself didn't even know what he's done, and basically went back to the bedroom and slept in the bed before waking and walking out into the street.
You can imagine the horror, and don't think anyone should have to go through an episode like this ever again.
chunkypie: Your bang on it is a whirlpool you just cant get out off. Medication might help short term but long term its about your outlook on life and attitude. What ever medication does or a doctor does the only person who can help someone who is depressed is yourself. A Psychologist does not cure someone they just point you in the right direction and help you find the answer inside you allready know :)
For me a combination of both works best. No amount of positive attitude can raise my mood at certain times of the year.
As I have stated in a previous post I have been able to reduce my meds by half as a result of CBT, helping me to look at the main triggers and ways to deal with them.
indeed. dont ever take antidepressents, much worse are the leading cause of suicide. good, strong psychotherapy and courage to face up to one self is called for. if you really want to take antidepressents, rather go for the green stuff, not good for you but less side effects.

Not everybody gets side effects, I have had no adverse reaction to my meds.
