Taichungrunner: Taiwan and China do not make the same things. China makes cheap toys and clothes mostly. In thos areas, China competes with the likes of Viet Nam, Sri Lanka, Thailand and some Central American countries. I avoid Chinese made textiles in favor of the other countries mentioned.
Taiwan makes high-technology devices and components. IN that, our main competition is Korea, but Taiwan is very competitive with them in terms of both quality and price.
Well, you could have saved all these lines if you had learnt to distinguish a joke froma serios statement. Thanks for the information though.
Taichungrunner: Given where you are, I completely understand.
And such should tell EVERYONE on this forum exactly WHY Taiwan's should not only be provided with the means to defend itself, but should be given much stronger diplomatic support than it is currently being given.
I am not personally arguing about the independence of your country. The only point under discussion to me is the support of the US? you must be mad? Just tell me honestly when that country stood up for the independence of any country without having any interest behind the curtain? So, in the case of your country, if you think it has enough to offer to the US, then you will have the support for a while (well until the Chinese finish the occupation of the decaying empire...) afterward it will be good to start praying.
Why don´t we wait and see instead of speculating, eh?
Antjo39: Well, I know you would always like to... But the marshy gap between wishes and abilities...
The idea of a joke is to make someone laugh, I assume your comment was a joke? it failed to raise a smile let alone a laugh. Censorship is not a laughing matter in my opinion.
ttom500: China just criticized the US for entertaining a future meeting between the Dalia Lama and President Obama. Last month, the White House and President Obama said he would meet with the Dalia Lama in the future.
China considers the Dalia Lama the leader of a seperatist movement. China has requested the 75 year old leader to return to China and 'address his errors'.
Reminding me very much of what was said here in a post recently.
China does not only want the US to end support of Taiwan. But it wants the US to end relationships with all groups in the region that oppose China's occupation or face a Chinese threat.
If we take China up on its pressured advise.....we can close US embassies in the far east in many counties and end relationships with many. A cost saving in the billions, but hardly in the favor of good international relationships and making friends in the world.
I bet a meeting of the two happens within the month and US embassies in the region stay open. And US envoys to groups in opposition to China continue to meet.
It is amazing that a giant country like China.....with 1 billion people.....has to also to incorporate Taiwan, the Himmlayas, the Hgullies, and others in the region. Small countries or groups peoples, miles away from Peking...on the fringes of the China borders are a source of concern to this giant of a nation.
It must be something that that those countries and people advocate or do that the China gov't fears so much......something that the Chinese started to advocate at Tianamen Square so many years ago.
Okay, using your logic to see human history: have you ever thought that maybe China has the same good intentions, and "winning-heart power" as its humanistic fellow the US to occupy Taiwan, Tibet and evn California? Why not? Just because they are Chinese and those are from the US? Not strong support. By using your logic, Taiwan should be crushed...sorry "won" by the Chinese giant. If one imperialism has right to exist...then the others too. That is from the point of view of mere logic. Yes, but I know your logic works up to the point where your prejudices and bigotry tell you: "STOP" Then you can criticise China's agressive policies while glorifying the "achievements" of the US policy. It is just double standards and cynism.

So, so moving little harangue..... This is a forum, so the joke is an open thing (not directed to anyone) even if it does not make anybody laugh. I can joke about anything at all... I am not a "humanistic" idiot with double standards and prejudice-burdened mind... so I just laugh at anything I want. Those with the humanistic drive and the "compassion" should go for the real sacrifice in any place consolation is needed... then I would start believing that their clichés were never clichés.

Bohdiprana, why do you like to kiss men? Not that there is anything wrong with that, but I get mixed signals here man. I thought only southern and eastern European men kiss each other when they greet and say goodbye?

Taichungrunner: Taiwan is no threat to China. China constantly threatens to attack us should we decide to exercise our rights in the international community. It is funny how some anti-US types on here would support giant authoritarian China against a freedom-loving island nation of 23 million people.
I was in Taiwan when the first democratic presidential election was held there. And when China sent a missile over Taiwanese airspace to intimidate the Taiwanese electorate (& which had the opposite effect) I was so happy when the American 7th fleet sailed down the Taiwan Straits and sent the Chinese fleet away. And I'm not American nor particularly militaristic.
well al i can say is that the u.s. should sell weapons to taiwan bacasue it will be used to defend temselves and we are obligated to help our allies rather that snub them like obama did to poland and the czech republic.

Conrad73: Being pissed off seems to be a favorite past-time with China lately!
yes so true, they arent very fond of Australia at present, all because we wouldnt let them buy into Rio Tinto or BHP Billiton or open up an Iron Ore deposit which was to be right in the heart of the El Alemain Army Base in South Austraia's outback

I could use some weapons, my neighbors are complete a**hole. Well on one side, the other side, she likes to bathe in the sun, so I'm not really into shooting her.
Don't underestimate the power of more guns. Good thing they don't apply this theory to maxi pads... the Taiwanese would be freaking and the Chinese would already be due just on some monthly schedule
