Has anyone ever considered the problems that middle aged and older people have finding a woman(or man) after finding oneself alone in a relatively foreign place...to explain...I am in Spain looking to start a new life....my wife hated it and after many disagreements we decided to end our marriage...she went back to the UK...I stayed put. Now I'm 60 years old...I can't just chat up a 60 year dolly bird in a pub can I? And where would I find a 60 year old dolly bird anyway?

I'm no old fogey and 'social activities'....bowling or bridge or other clubs or worse....don't really appeal to me. On top of that, I haven't got time to mess about.....If I try to take my time I'll be an OAP before I've got an invite for supper!!

Dating sites are generally a con. This one is very good and free...but....there are not that many women in my region so the odds of finding Nirvana are pretty long.....

So who has a good solution??

Throw out as many nets as possible, on and ofline. You're a guy, you can do that more easily than us ladies.professor Starting a thread here is one of those many'nets'. And yes, this is a great site, lots of decent folk here.

Then hope you don't ensnare a shark in your troubles!doh laugh

All the best to you.cheers

And why can't you? if you are saying that once you hit 60, you can't chat up women, then with only 17 months to go until I hit 60, I'd better get a move on!

Seriously though....age is a mere number and there are ladies out there that also want company.

Uuummm

I have just posted on another thread about the problems that late 40's to middle 50's women have here of finding men in their age range...A good friend I have made here said 'All the (single) men our age have either gone back to the Uk, are drunks, or are ex-cons.

There are, I think, quite a few 60 plus dolly birds about, you must be drinking in the wrong pubs. laugh

And Ray, stop with 'Foreign Land' stuff. We are EU citizens and perfectly entitled to be here. You are not the only one to have found themselves 'alone' here. It has happened to lots of us, myself included.

I know the problem. I don't like to go to a pub alone and wouldn't dare to chat up any man. I did go to coffee shops or restaurants but most people there are tourists or married British residents. I never met any + 60 single Cypriot.
But I'm not desparate yet. In the meantime, I have great fun on the Forums!
Good luck to you! cheers

I believe if someone has the determination to make his wish, or desire come true, then he has to start moving and find a way to make it happen as it will NOT come and knock your door if you, yourself will not just sit there and do nothing....You have to move and do something and so it will come to pass....WILLINGNESS AND DETERMINATION COUNT ALOT....wave

Well now I didn't mean foreign in that sense...it was supposed to be a global comment...ie wherever you are in the world. My point was that if you are abroad, then unless you are a good native language speaker, the available complement is diminished making it even harder to find a good match.

Anyway, just being in the EU doesn't make you European any more than being in NATO makes you American. We are entitled to be here, but it isn't England if you understand what I mean....It is a stand alone country with its own history, language and characteristics??....ie Foreign.

Have you actually contacted any ladies in your area via the site? A lot of women in the age group you are looking for are not comfortable making the first move - I know I'm guilty of that too.

Looking at your profile, you're looking for someone who is, amongst other things, forgiving.................what are you likely to be up to that needs forgiving?

Hiya Maisie wave

A lot of women in the age group you are looking for are not comfortable making the first move

I would certainly make the first move to say hello if, after reading a guy's profile I thought I would like to touch base with him. The problem I find is that most of the guys in my age group are looking for gals much younger than I am, and the guys from whom I receive loads of responses are much too young (often a lot younger than my own son laugh ) Catch 22 .....

I know what you mean. Last time I looked there were only 2 men in my area looking for women my age, and one of those was my ex. Nothing wrong with women liking younger men - or vice versa - but it's not what I'm looking for.

Sorry Ray. Raw nerve for pensioners (not me!)at the moment, because some in the UK are grumbling about the heating allowance paid out to pensioners in warmer climes. Of course, it's 40C here all the time isn't it? sad flower

Hi Ray

well I,m not sixty yet,but very much in the same boat. You are in a slightly better position I presume, see I,m tied here due to having an 8 year old son.If you have got the freedom to come and go nothing stopping you from finding somebody back in the uk who would like to come and live over here.

Even speaking fluent Spanish does not help;most Spanish women would prefer to stick with their own kind,in my experience,or worse, see you as somebody to fleece, cause we all know that the Brits are loaded don,t we.

Solution ? Aint one far as I can see,we just got to get used to the idea that our bird pulling days are well and truly behind us.Just try to enjoy life and hope something nice comes along, but don,t bank on it,that way you can,t lose.Someone nice comes into my life, fine,if not, fine.

And do not think you are looking to start a new life,it got started already the day you and your ex split. What you are seeing is the down side of it and if that is as bad as it gets so what?

On the plus side, you haven,t got all those disagreements anymore, that must be a welcome relief. Now spend your time just having a good life, don,t go looking for love,it,ll find you all by itself.

Good luck.
cheers
