Invited round to someones house, good manners alone would make me take along some flowers and wine. And if I invite someone to the movies I fully expect to pay.Today many folk go "dutch" nothing wrong with that as neither should expect something for nothing, but, if you invite someone for dinner,a movie or a night out unless the host should probably expect to pay unless the cost is extremely prohibitive then it should made clear before the date that both parties are paying their own way.....But even then I as the host would expect to pay for the extras ie a concert or theatre with expensive tickets I would pay travel and drinks/food etc.....JMO------ This thread is Archived ------

If I invite someone around, I take great joy in preparing and buying and really making them feel welcome...
If I get invited around or out... I always ask if I can bring something... even if the answers no, I take something appropriate to the type of function...
If I stay with someone - I accept whatever they are offerring, but I put in either with gifts or money...
I would feel embarrassed to not contribute... because any friendship is a partnership of sorts... and both parties have to contribute to show appreciation of the other...
I cannot stand mean, tightfisted people for no other reason except it speaks volumes about how much they will not want to " give of themselves"
but fortunately, I meet few of these kind...
