I'm turning 50 in 10 days time and feel really miserable about it! When I was young, 50 seemed so OLD! I still feel young, but now at 50 I am definitely middle aged..... Eeeeeeek. I think it is more about having certain expectations about what my life would be like by 50 which have not happened.....
I remember 30 being a huge milestone in my life, I even wrote a funny poem about the joys of ageing; but 40 felt good. I'm going to have to think up a really good poem for the big 50!!!!
Do you feel the same about milestone birthdays??? Which have been your biggies?

At thirty, I decided it was time to grow up.
That was a misereable idea.
I turned forty a couple months ago.
Growing up I never imagined my self in my forties,

No, I just remember some of them have been absolute classic celebrations like my 21st, when I was out in South Africa. Now that was memorable not to say the least
Fifty I wish I could go back-------------NOT. Fifty is just a number to tell you that you have taken the right steps in life to make it this far. Go with the feelings inside, if you feel young go with it.
Here is a song by George Strait, in the song he talks about the damn old mirror.

Nah, it's just a number. Celebrate your mental age instead! Mine is 8...
OP I wouldn't worry about how you feel, it's more a case of how other people treat and perceive you, and some will have prejudices. Others won't give a damn. Carry on being yourself and show the muppets who put you in a little box that they are just that muppets. Most of them are incredibly small minded and boring.

Age is just that,a number added on every year and should be just that. All this talk about "life begins at 40"! It starts from the first day you draw breath and ends on the last gasp. What you do in between is what counts ,and every DAY should be a milestone and treated as such.
I was 70 this year and spent it in bed with Nova Virus.

Raynew1959: For me, birthdays are nothing more than another day.
The only ones who make a big deal about them are my present employers who go out and buy a cake whenever a birthday comes around.
My 50'th came and went by with hardly a happy birthday from anyone.
With 51 coming up real quick, I don't give a damn any more
Hmmmmm, well I think I'm going to start counting backwards from now on when it comes to birthdays!!! You're lucky your employer buys you a cake - we have a horrible tradition of having to buy our OWN birthday cake for everyone in the bloody office!!!! I think it's nice to celebrate our rite of passage...... How far away is real quick?????

Hey North... thanks for that! I'm not a huge country fan generally, but that is one hot ole cowboy and I liked the words!!! I wonder if 50 feels different for a woman because we are kind of looking at the end of an era in a way... I mean it isn't just the menopause, it is the men-have-paused!!! Ah well.....

Turning 50 was no big deal to me. I was more depressed turning 30. At this age, hell..I'm proud (and surprised) I lived this long considering how many candles I burned at both ends when I was 30
