Economy - overview: Mexico has a free market economy that recently entered the trillion dollar class. It contains a mixture of modern and outmoded industry and agriculture, increasingly dominated by the private sector. Recent administrations have expanded competition in seaports, railroads, telecommunications, electricity generation, natural gas distribution, and airports. Per capita income is one-fourth that of the US; income distribution remains highly unequal. Trade with the US and Canada has tripled since the implementation of NAFTA in 1994. Mexico has 12 free trade agreements with over 40 countries including, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, the European Free Trade Area, and Japan, putting more than 90% of trade under free trade agreements. The FOX administration is cognizant of the need to upgrade infrastructure, modernize the tax system and labor laws, and allow private investment in the energy sector, but has been unable to win the support of the opposition-led Congress. The next government that takes office in December 2006 will confront the same challenges of boosting economic growth, improving Mexico's international competitiveness, and reducing poverty.
Mexico is one of Latin America's most industrialized nations. Manufacturing and mining . Motor vehicles, processed food, steel, chemicals. paper and textiles have joined more traditional products such as sugar, coffee, silver, lead, copper and zinc. Among Mexico's biggest national assets are its oil reserves, the eighth largest in the world, and its gas reserves. Concentrated mainly along the Gulf Coast and belonging to a government owned monopoly, Pemex, these reserves yield about one tenth of Mexico's export earnings and one third of the government's revenues.
Mexico CAN support it's own people if they want to.
THESE ARE THE SENATORS WHO VOTED TO GIVE ILLEGAL ALIENS SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS. REGARDLESS OF POLITICAL PARTY, THESE POLITICIANS NEED TO BE DEFEATED IN 2006, 2008 OR 2010 WHENEVER THEY COME UP FOR OFFICE.
Read my past posts and you will see that I am not being harsh at all, rather I'm defending them. But as far as paying Social Security benefits to someone, anyone, who has not paid into the system, even I have to object to that.
There are alot of people who are here illegally who had no choice in the matter-- namely, those that came over as children because their parents came over here illegally and brought them over. These children cannot go to school, because they do not have the legal papers to do so. When they grow up they cannot get a job the legal way. They grow up thinking like Americans, and yet they are not Americans.
So-- forgetting their parents, I want to raise this question: Would you punish these children also, for something that isn't their fault, for something that they do not want, and never wanted??
My father is a Chicano (meaning he was born here in the USA and his parents are Mexican) and I grew up inm what came to be an all hispanic, half illegal neighborhood. He feels the same way the majority of you feel-- that illegal immigration is wrong. As for myself, I'm neutral about the situation, and I'm going to keep my personal feelings out of it.
Good point, the kid's didn't have choice in the matter. The mexican movement is so out of control nothing can be done. Our gov't lost their grip somthing has to be done to get this stuff in order,so it work's out good for everyone. When I say mexican movement I mean that I feel that mexican's just don't wake up one morning and say let's go to the u.s.. I think it's a well oiled plan with there gov't sending them here and good contact's set up in america. It really like a war to take over with out fighting right under our noses, but I give the mexican's credit they are winning the war without a shot fired.
In one town across the border, Warez, they became smart. The American government was shipping aid to help the poor. This one store there was selling the stuff back to the tourists as they went back into America at a reduced price. No cost for product, low markup and low overhead. Hurray for free enterprise.
Good point, Cat. There is the over population factor, too, concerning illegal immigrants. Census records help in figuring many things. Like disease control, school class sizes, taxes and jeez the list just goes on.
Send them all to Germany, they all get a home, money for no working , free education for childreen and parents, free health insurance (native have to pay) and...and...and....
Also I keep hearing this from mostly the typical ignorant american folks..first of all if you came here illegally its not possible to become legal even if you have kids....you have to enter the country legally to get a green card even if you marry a citizen or have kids...every foreigner who comes into the usa geta a I-94 card on entry thats the proof that they entered legally...also I want to know where is that they grant free education to illegal aliens.....if they do IT IS NOT fair...I want to know if it actually happens...I highly doubt it...also the average american kid is too busy with getting high or getting pregnant or dating...that they hardly think of going to school....and yes there is lot of discrimination in the usa....
of course it happens...and those children need an education.
the schools make photocopies of social security cards...but they do NOT verify the numbers. same with the majority of work places...if you have one guy who is legal...his social security number can be used indefinitely for others. ask me how i know?
these people contribute to our society in many ways...they are hard-working and unassuming...and i am friends with many, legal or not.
That is for their own country to take care of them. This country gives them to come here "legally" and they do hurt the middle class if there is such a thing anymore of this country.
