An excerpt taken from ehow.com ....sounds to me like being down to earth is a quality many people should have....
"In today's society with everyone trying to be accepted by others, you find that people are not always genuine people. Instead they become people pleasing pretenders. Yet, in their hearts, they really prefer to have the guts to just be who they really are and not care at all about the people who refuse to accept them for who they really are. There are a few things that can be done to help people to simply be themselves and become the down to earth real genuine person that they really desire to be.
Practice being true to yourself. Evaluate who you really are and determine what you really like and/or dislike.
Love yourself. Like yourself. If you're a conservative person, then that's who you really are. It's not a good idea to try to be like someone else. You'll lose your "real" self in the midst of trying to fit into your life and style what really works for someone else which will ultimately result in your becoming an unhappy person.
Practice honesty and integrity with others. This is an important part of being a down to earth person. In cases where you do not or can not fulfill a request, be real and honest about it. People respect those who are honest and sincere in situations. They know that this type of person in general can be trusted.
Practice being a humble person. Modest people are generally well liked people. No one really likes a braggadocios person. People can be confident without bragging and making others feel less worthy.
Care for others and be concerned about others. In caring for others, discover ways in which you can help others. Down to earth people are not only concerned about themselves, but care about others as well.
Realize that establishing and maintaining true and trusting relationships with people are far more important than obtaining fame, prestige, fortune or material things.
Choose your friends and company wisely. Spend time with others who are genuine, honest and down to earth. This will influence and help you to become the down to earth person you desire to be."
The most down to earth woman I ever met was in her 20's, she lived on an uninhabited island off of the coast of Florida, she had long dread locks past her elbows; and, she never never wore clothes unless she went to town to sell the things she made.
realistic, sensible, simple in style, easy- going, laid-back, basic, simple, salt of the earth type person, easygoing outlook on their life and how they approach events in their life.
I think it is more of a state of mind than anything else as opposed to outside influences playing any significant part such as wealth, appearance, intelligence, and religion.

time4fun4u: I think he means people just put down what they think sounds good.
Probably But I know one thing for certain, when I say something about myself, I don't tell lies. Shame on those who bs on their profiles....they ruin it for the honest folks.
