With technology making leaps and bounds, almost daily it seems, it was supposedly to make life easier...really?
There was a time when I was driving home from work...that's exactly what i did...drove home...now it seems because i can be reached in the car on my cell, I also handle work crisis and an ever growing grocery list!
It just seems to me that the more time i free up because of these new gadgets, the more time I have to fill with something else...
Do you really feel you benefitted from new technology? And certainly i'm not complaining of advancement in the medical field or the things created to make our health better.

Steve5721: Agreed...it has also made life simpler..and then again, more difficult!
Having lived without some of these things, I agree, but on balance I think the technical age is good, I can't imagine life now without cell phones and computers. I just can't wait to see what develops in the next 50 years.

Just how we are as humans. We make things for an easier life and complicate it along the way.
I think its a thing for the individual to control. If you dont need some of these technical things, dont have them.Turn off your mobile,i do.Make yourself some space.

I don't want to upset the applecart here but WHEY THE HELL ARE YOU TALKING ON YOUR CELL PHONE WHILE DRIVING-- You don't get those gadgets in jail after you take a life so you might rethink how easy your life is NOW. Nice to meet you but your suject makes me furious!!!

Okay, okay - most people use hands-free sets. All is good! Deep breath! There...

*breathing deeply* ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, ty, I feel better. I just flip whn I see people talking on their cells and I have seen and heard about too many lives lost BUT enough about the cell phone think, I can't change the world and I do indeed enjoy new technology. My life is easier.

Hm, try Italy - driving WITHOUT a mobile in hand would be considered unstylish and is frowned upon...

Once one has become "used" to having these things, you feel almost "naked" and "lost" without them...
But thank you...yes I do need to carve some space out for myself...I keep forgetting that as I get older I should not increase my pace because of technology...

Hi Arlene...nice to meet you as well
I see that you live in Canada as do I, and I am aware of the laws here that prevent the use of hand held cells while driving. I am glad there are people like you out there that are annoyed by those who take OTHER people's lives into their hands when they make these choices...I do as well.

It made it easier for us to slide six feet under. Children nowadays can be found in front of a big screen tv playing video games, thus helping along the childhood obesity increase.
Adults are busy on websites trying to find a date with ever increasing waistlines.
Cutting back on the number of family owned farms has made it necessary for us to buy less-than-good-for-us packaged processed foods that are also causing us to have an early expiration date(not to mention recall after recall of foods).
We drive everywhere, creating more pollution and getting less exercise. There was a time when people did not need a gym membership, they had to walk or ride horseback to get anywhere. It was healthier(unless you got thrown from your horse, although car accidents have taken the place of that situation)and better for the environment. All that manure fertilizing the ground, making the veges grow.
I don't own a tv. I have a work issued cell phone and a pay-as-you-go cellphone just for emergencies, so that never gets used.
I actually envy the Amish people and their way of life. If I'd never had electricity, I couldn't miss it if it was suddenly no longer there. We're now soft because we think we need AC, remote controls and all the other gadgets that come down the pike
I'm sitting here on my sofa, watching my 42" plasma tv, with the aid of my HD cable box, which is currently recording two other programs, on to a hard drive disc. I've also put a washing into the programmable washing machine this evening, and I'm currently typing this on my laptop. I love the fact that when I jump into my car on a cold morning, I no longer have to pull the choke out, and pump the accelerator pedal, and then hope the engine kicks over and starts. I also like the fact that when I stomp on the brake pedal, the ABS kicks in and brings me to a brake pumped halt safely! I also revel in the fact that I can purchase anything I desire, without being barged and pushed in shops by ignorant people, and get said items delivered to my door.
So by now, I'm sure you have noticed, I'm all for technology !!
