Youdneverguess: You've a fair point, but there's something wrong when men like Michael Lowry and our South Kerry TD Jackie Healy Rae can prop up a government and hold it to ransom over local issues when the public clearly wants them out.
Perhaps i'm wrong, but i think senators seem better vetted or "educated" for the job of governing. Large chunks of the Dáil's opposition don't get any power of persuasion whatsoever unless they form a "group" to get speaking rights, whereas every senator is entitled to contribute their point before a vote. It just seems more disciplined to me...
well the senate is partly nominated partly voted in, i'd agree the level of debate in there is much better than the dail, and i would keep a reformed senate, as for the lowrys and healy raes, i think more power at local level would diminish there sway
I think Fianna Gaelabour are doing a great job getting support for Sinn Fein by continually pointing out their 'past'. They say they carried out a massive bank robbery. Well, boo hoo. I bet people are going to be sooo disgusted with them for that.... not! So they blew up politicians and other administrators of a corrupt system. Once again, boo hoo. In revolutionary times you don't try to discredit your enemy by calling them revolutionary while putting yourself forward as a pair of 'safe hands'; safe to continue the status quo of the old failed system. Only brain dead bigots will be attracted by that.
Am I the only person who continually hears it said that politicans should be hung? And it's not just the youth saying it.
Ken35: He's promising universal healthcare knowing dam well its unaffordable.
They want to base it of the model in the Netherlands, and the actual healthcare system there is very good, I know I lived there for many years, and it was easily affordable at the start, but what they haven't told you is that year upon year the charges to the individual have risen and risen, it now costs approx 1200 yoyos a year for a family with 2 kids.
However!!! That is still half the price of a VHI basic plan B for 2 adults and 2 kids, and 2/3rds of the cost of a VHI basic plan A.
But knowing this crowd, it will end up even more expensive than any VHI plan.
