I think that before a new Taoiseach is allowed then a general election has to be held to confirm the parties right to decide the new Taoiseach.
This would give the people an indirect say in the post.

What's the point in having a general election to the Dail only to have a election afterwards to see if people agree with it's result?

i am a member of sf and have many friends in sf! and as a member of my local sf cumann i can honestly tell you i know of none of the people you speak of
the past is the past and called for difficult decisions

I agree, why would anyone want to vote for those who support the murder of innocent people, it isn't a nationalist/unionist thing its just organised crime and thugs making money.

I've no problem with the ordinary SF person, but it's the old gaurd that's still in charge of it, and I've a big problem with them
