Belize is an option you should look into. Not long ago it was a very popular retirement destination, for just the reasons you mention. Things may have changed somewhat in 15 or 20 years, but on the other hand, the same years probably mean a lot of former-retiree vacancies.

Yeah cause I do Western Australia all new suburbs been built building trade here in Perth western Australia is booming. Great place to live nice and hot even our winters are mild.
Our beaches are amongst the best in the world. can't get better than that.
Try Cyprus! It's warm - very, in the summer - and safe. Not quite as cheap as when I moved here nearly 6 years ago but still reasonable. No snow in the winter unless you want to go up to the mountains for a bit of ski-ing, then you can drive down to the coast and sit in the sun!

So, are you saying that you would move to a bizarre country and retire on the word of a person from here? My brother raves about Thailand but he also has stories about being scammed in every country.

I can say that I didn't get scammed in Canada but they did make all the Brits line up and walk through a trough of disinfectant as soon as we got off the plane

If it's affordable, and it needn't be expensive – find two locations. For example, I know a retiree who summers in Alaska and winters in Mexico; and drives his car easily between the two. He is very happy

I don`t blame you for wanting to get out of Canada...The last time I was there they searched my car for guns and ammo going over the border last year.
