to share the scents of my garden with you all.

the violets are blooming enmass and their sweet perfume is subtle but gorgeous at the same time.

The tiny little viburnum has a flower almost as big as the plant and smells soooooo sweet that is is almost addictive

but...

the best is yet to come...

my daphne, which is 120cm high, and about 2.5m wide is covered in bud and is just starting to open.

ah, for the next 6 weeks or so I can look forward to drinking in the giddy scent each time I open the garage doorgrin

what would you like the chance to share with us all?

not sure Kizzy, I inherited this one with the place.
It was soft and leggy, and very pandered too.
It has had a hard prune last year, and a light one this year. I sorta told it to harden up!laugh

They are acid lovers and dont like wet feet.

Generally if you can get them established they will survive most, but the trick is to get them to that stage.

I feed mine a fish based fertilizer, but havent fed it at all this year. And after it finishes flowering I try to give it a light prune.
If you have yellow leaves it maybe a trace element problem

wish I could bottle it and send to you Shell, there mightnt be much to look at there at present but you can sure smell them.

there is also something sweet around the other side of the house, but I cant work out what it is, unless there is a gardenia flower hiding under the bush

a real feast for the nose.

And Tony, take a walk in the garden even in the cold, you will be rewardedgrin I am just lucky that once the daphne is in full bloom I get hit with it everytime I open the garage door.love

Would love to see your garden... sounds wonderful... I have camelias budding and a couple out now... and the roses got a prune today... Funny tho.. the hollyhocks are still about... they should not be..

I have a lovely time in my garden.. my daphne just does not do well... now that I read about yours.. I must look to changing its position in the garden.

Thanks for your lovely thread... cheers

my daphne is on the north side of the house but in the shade of the fence. (small area) The bed is built up and I have sand over clay, so it is very well drained.

My friend has killed plenty of daphnes before as well, but brought one last year and was advised to plant it and ignore it unless it was very dry.
It is still alive, gave her 1 cluster of flowers last year and this year has buds all over it.

So maybe dont pander to them, just if the leaves go yellow check the pH and maybe add some trace elements or a teaspoon of epsom salts to a bucket of water which gives them magnesium

Your garden sounds beautiful jem happy place

I need to get more scented plants in mine for sure. Might get out there tomorrow actually, it needs a weed and a good turn over as it's had loads of rainwater dumped on it lately and is looking a little soggy hmmm

yep had guessed Shell would laugh

but as long as she didnt take all the flowers I would be happy to share, there is enough to go around.

I am lucky enuff to have inherited a garden with great bones, just have had to take out some plants that didnt suit and add my own touches. A work in progress, and sorry Faithe my garden would be hell for you as it is filled with different scentscomfort

Thought about it, but kinda would take any joy out of looking at the garden. I can go near smelly flowers if l use my asthma preventer and antihistamine.

Its a shame you'never be able to smell my roses. Still you can look, but looking without the smellin is not much fun.
