Hai Staff
After seeing the carnage caused by someone all over the board today, would it be time to think about allowing the user-base to vote off newly created threads?
How it could work.
A thread is created by a user, and then for a set period of time, people are given the option to put it up for a deletion vote.
It could take a predetermined number of votes to have it deleted that only the staff know about and users are only given the right, after a set period of posting on the forums.
If a thread IS deleted, it gets moved to a part of the site where only staff can see, and they can have a look and pass their judgement on it as to whether it was worth deleting or not. If not, then they can reinstate it.
To stop the it being abused, a list of users who voted would only be visible to staff. They would have the option to remove peoples rights for voting, if they see that they are being abused.
It's mainly for the benefit of the rest of the site, as it would keep the board clean of troll threads.

Naw,let the Moderators do their Job,and let us do ours! Your solution would be fraught with Bias!

So glad I just missed the carnage... and sounds like a great idea if it's possible to work it out
Let the Mods do the Moderating! If something is amiss, report to them, and let them to the Deciding! There is a reason there are no Member-Moderators here! Besides,we were told that some Changes were due in how the Forums were run,so lets hold on a bit, until we're let in on it!

There couldn't be bias, as any thread that's deleted wrongly could be reinstated. The people that voted it off, would have a 'flag' against their profile for abusing the system. Only staff would be able to see that.
Then, if the user still continues to vote wrongly, they lose the right to vote.
That should (in theory) stop the cliques all backing each other in voting off threads posted by people they don't like.

so we are still down that the Mods have to make the call! Much simpler just to report the Thread if it is Offensive, and if enough reports come in,the Thread will be pulled,as it is the way it's done now! basically the Voting-System you're calling for is already in place, without loading down the Server more!
I think that being able to vote on a thread would be a nice addition but realistically there are people here from all over the world with different thoughts, beliefs, and what have you. I still think the best solution for the unwanted is just to use a bit of restraint and don't fuel the fire. Although it is human nature to defend oneself, nobody is forcing us to respond to the negative posting. It is amasing how fast the fire goes out if there is no fuel to sustain it.
