lifeisadream: The problem is that people do not report but post on those trouble threads.
Did you report?
I did.
I wasn't around to report them as they were happening, I have only been home a couple of hours.
By the time I'd gotten on here, most of the threads in question had been 'up' for the best part of 5 hours and more in some cases, and I suspect that they had already been reported several times. Adding another report won't make them vanish any quicker.
Reporting only works if there are people about to act on them.
See what I'm getting at?
If they can be at least removed from the 'front site', maybe the poster will get bored and give up.
But, then again, if people just ignored them, it could have the same effect. But, that just isn't going to happen is it?
After seeing the carnage caused by someone all over the board today, would it be time to think about allowing the user-base to vote off newly created threads?
How it could work.
A thread is created by a user, and then for a set period of time, people are given the option to put it up for a deletion vote.
It could take a predetermined number of votes to have it deleted that only the staff know about and users are only given the right, after a set period of posting on the forums.
If a thread IS deleted, it gets moved to a part of the site where only staff can see, and they can have a look and pass their judgement on it as to whether it was worth deleting or not. If not, then they can reinstate it.
To stop the it being abused, a list of users who voted would only be visible to staff. They would have the option to remove peoples rights for voting, if they see that they are being abused. It's mainly for the benefit of the rest of the site, as it would keep the board clean of troll threads.
Just saying...
Just get rid of the people that continually harass, demean, and just can't seem to communicate without profanities and obscenities. Those are usually the first to start the name calling which then escalates into the classic 'pack attacks' by like minded verbally challenged individuals.Frankly, there should be a zero tolerance for the use of obscenities.

I agree, there should be absolutley a zero tolerance for profanity. I think Lifesadream's comments about ignoreing and staying away from a thread such as the one today is the best solution and of course report to the Mods. They are here for us and by that I mean the overall group of us that want to be here to socialise and have a good time with it. Just a thought of my own here, don't you think that we gave this fellow today exactly what he was hoping for. He wanted to leave with a bang , and he did. He is either sitting back right now wondering how he can get back at us or he bragging to his buddies about how he showed us. at the end of the day though he is the one that is gone. Thanks to the Mods it will always work out for the better for the site and the rest of us.

This is how the forums on POF are run, undesirables don't last long on there.

I think the voting thing would enable people with power, anger, etc. issues and that's what the trolling/flooding is about in the first place.
It won't alter the mods work load.
Ocassionally, we have to put up with someone saying naughty words and running amok. Are they that important?
kennn: Hi Boom, I have wondered here about how it actually does work with the profiles. There should be a way for the Mods not to allow mulitple profiles??
hello kenn...since Ive been here the place has always had multiple/fake profiles but from what you seen today its the troll feeders that keep them here by responding to them..even when the person has been exposed as a fake people still continue to correspond with them..

This fellow today had posted riduculous and derogatory statements on many of the threads over the last while and I have seen the majority of people respond to it very well, actually. One thing I have thought is how many private messages was he receiving for him to come out and rant like he did today. I still think there should be a way for the Mods to be able to control anyone creating multiple profiles. Myself, I can not understand why people would have the need for multiple profiles.
Conrad73: Naw,let the Moderators do their Job,and let us do ours! Your solution would be fraught with Bias!
I agree with you Conrad. How many people have been accused of being trolls unfairly, and how many people are ostracised just because they post a comment which doesn´t sit well with the majority. It´s all too subjective really, and if you read the posts today which wreaked havoc you will see that there were a handful of members in the end giving support and requesting forgiveness for the perpetrator.
The Mods always remove foul posts and posters within 24 hours at the very least so I really don´t see any need for a change.
The biggest problem is that these posters are always able to return swiftly under a different guise, unbeknownst to most who welcome them as new members with hugs and well wishes, and I´m not sure anything can be done to prevent that happening.

Completely unacceptable because then any mob of brats can control the forums at any time. I think the way things have been done in the past seems to work out fine because I have seen people witch hunted.
