random88guy: I'm moving to Western Australia in a month for work (from India). Expect to stay there for a few years at least, so figured it's best to find out more about the customs and habits followed by the Aussies.

So, is there anything the Aussies have noticed the foreigners to do wrong on a frequent basis? What irks you most about guys from other countries? Anything specific you would want me to make a note of? What do you guys love doing on the weekends? What is something you can't tolerate outsiders talking ill about? Which beer is the all time Aussie favourite? (My personal preference is Heineken)

I would be staying in Perth and Paraburdoo mostly. Candid and honest remarks are invited. No offense will be taken. It's all good, let the gloves come off! :P

PS: It would be really nice if I could get in touch with someone from Perth/Paraburdoo. Would love to make new friends at the earliest!

First where the hell is Paraburdoo up North of W.A. ? dunno I am from Perth I am stumped on that one or am I just a dumb blond. hehe!

Also practise saying "Gidday Mate"!! and tip ya hat as you walk by tip hat It's a bit cheesy but will put a smile on everyones face some peeps will prob think you are nuts and you should fit right in. Cause we are very laided back here in good old Western Australia do you know what Western Australia stands for W.A. "Wait Awhile" laugh australia Hope that bit of useless information helps and last just chill relax go with the flow wave

bluejay2011: Hi Random

Your english is very good, you sound like an aussie already.

Australia is a big country with a small population, so we like our personal space. I would suggest to you, when you are standing in a queue, leave a space between you and the person in front. Also when travelling on public transport allow a space between you and the person you sit next to. I know in India you are used to being crammed into small spaces with alot of people but we are not.

I would say the thing that grosses me out the most, I don't care where you come from (even an Aussie), is people who spit or blow snot out their nose.

You will also need to get used to people making jokes about India. It is an Aussie tradition to make jokes about every nationality, blondes and red heads. Do not take offence as it is not a personal attack. I would look up aussie jokes on the net so you can make fun of us too.

Have a great stay
thumbs up laugh

Billy6456: Where do I begin...
1. Australian Women love to be barefoot and naked in the kitchen....they have a saying.."treat us mean, keep us keen".
2. They love playing Dutch Ovens...but should they not be in the mood..spit into the air!
3. Burping and farting in restaraunts is a sign of appreciation of the meal and the company of other patrons...the more you enjoyed your experience the louder the fart and burp should be...
4. Regarding burps, ya can't beat a good beer burp especially while eating canned oysters!!!
5. WA has a large population of Bikies....to show that you support their cause...give em a one finger salute...better known here as 'the bird'...you'll love the attention they give you!!

stay tuned for more cultural tips and advice

Hi random, I worked in Parraburdoo more than 20 years ago as a bar maid. There is nothing to spend your money on so it is
an excellent place to save money.
Sorry, I havn't read all the posts so you may have already
stated it, but what work do you intent to undertake. handshake

Paraburdoo is located on the doorstep of the world renowned Karijini National Park. Known for its spectacular gorges and scenery, Karijini is popular with locals and tourists alike. Being on the edge of the desert and in the Hamersley ranges the area is noted for its beautiful scenery and its rich variety of wildlife.

Paraburdoo is located approximately 530km inland of Coral Bay and Exmouth where the small settlements lie protected from the Indian ocean by the Ningaloo reef. Coral Bay is Australia's only fringing reef.
