Internet troll jailed after mocking deaths of teenagers.

An internet troll who posted videos and messages mocking the deaths of teenagers, including a girl hit by a train, has been jailed.

Sean Duffy, 25, targeted Facebook tribute pages and posted videos on YouTube taunting the dead and their families.

Among his victims was Natasha MacBryde, 15, who died instantly when hit by a passenger train near her home in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire.

The day after Natasha's death in February, Duffy posted comments including "I fell asleep on the track lolz" on the Facebook tribute page created by her brother James, 17.

Four days later he created a YouTube video called "Tasha the Tank Engine" featuring her face superimposed on to the front of the fictional engine.

Duffy, who is unemployed and did not know any of his victims, pleaded guilty to two counts of sending malicious communications relating to Natasha.

He asked for three other cases of Facebook trolling – posting offensive messages on the internet – to be taken into consideration when he appeared before magistrates in Reading, Berkshire.

Jailing him for 18 weeks, the chair of the bench, Paul Warren, told him: "You have caused untold distress to already grieving friends and family.

"The offences are so serious only a custodial sentence could be justified."

There really are some vile people out there.

It's good to see the courts are taking this kind of thing seriously though...thumbs up

Sadly the guy will only serve about nine weeks, but on the plus side, most inmates are not too pleasant with guys who do this kind of thing.

Many of them have children of their own.

He sounds like he was on his way to be a Columbine kid. There is a sickness there, if his enjoyment comes from this sort of thing.

thumbs up

I knew a guy in England years back, who was not the best looking guy in the world, was really quite shy and insecure. He never went out of the house, grew dope plants in his press and used the internet as his sole form of social contact and entertainment. Consequently, with all those factors combined, he became very agrophobic and insular.

When I decided I only wanted his friendship and nothing else, he became very creepy, stalked me with text messages and emails, verbally abused me constantly to the extent I had to change my cell phone number and block his emails.

I find it truely frightening that people get so involved with the internet that it is used to the detriment of life outside their four walls. They get so caught up in it that they base all their decisions in life on it, and loose touch with reality. In this day and age of poor employment, more and more people are stuck at home, with nothing else to think about, and its no wonder that these creeps and creepesses abound.

Thank you Bod, for bringing this to our attention once again, and I hope those poor victims RIP.doh sad flower

18 weeks?

That's more than my daughter's ex got for beating her up and causing untold emotional dammage to her, their children and the families on both side!!!

Good that the courts are talking internet offenses seruously BUT there's inconsistencies in the way jail sentences are dished out!!

An extreme case, but still there may be a lesson to be learned.

Many online folk in my opinion are vulnerable and people who exploit that, as in this particular case, or in much seemingly milder scenarios such as online dating sites, can cause untold damage.

I agree, the punishments these days do not match the crimes. But if they did perhaps the economy would have been bankrupt decades ago, financing the penal system ....dunno ... it's crazy, I rather pay for that then many of the other issues the government seems to prioritise.

However sad and unfortunate... There really shouldnt be any legal grounds...
When news reporters comment on "war victory" aren't they doing the same thing?
The media is there.. How we use it should be up to us and being a open environment it should also be regulated by the people...

Did people watch his YouTube videos? Why?
Not saying he is right... But he sure do show us what we really are like as humans supposedly intellectual and above animals...
