Faithe: Yes l can say your wrong...lol. The answer is cousin, all the the other family members are a gender ie: Father is a male and so on but cousin is not a gender.

Okay Faithe, I was only 99% correct when I said ":Okay, Faithe, the odd one out is the non-specific gender cousin." when all the others are gender-specific

Faithe: Ok only had one cup of coffee so far but here goes Take one bullet from each machine and line them up in order by machine number and then add one bullet at a time to the scales. The weight should go up by 10 grams everytime until you hit the 9 or 11 gram bullet. So for example say the fourth bullet has been added and the weight is 40 grams but then the next bullet brings the weight up to either 49 or 51 grams the faulty machine would be machine number 5.

No..You can't add one at a time! When you weigh the first bullet from the first machine, your chance is over. You can only weigh once. If you are keep adding bullets, you are weighing it each time. As I explained, you can weigh only once, no matter how many bullets from any of the machines you have. Try again.

Sorry mate. Not the right answer. Let us assume they are of the same size. You can come up with a more intelligent answer. I appreciate your trying.

how can they all be the same size?
With the increase of weight the size would change.

Nope sorry. If they are made of lead the density will be the same. the only way would be the size change.

I did not tell that they were made of lead. It can be any material. I just put bullets in the case. I could say a plastic bottle making machine, or cork making machine or something like that..

You need to find out the faulty machine by just one weighing.

you mark each bullet with the machine number. then you weigh all of the bullets and take off a bullet and once you have the odd one out you have your falty machine.

Oh no! You can't weigh all the bullets and take one each as it is more than one weighing. You have only one chance to weigh. Just one

Ok..since no one answered, I will say the answer for the bullet question..
Take 1 bullet from first machine, two bullets from second, three from third and so on until you take 10 bullets from tenth machine. Just weigh it once. If all were perfect you will get 550 grams.
But if the first machine was faulty making 11 g bullets, you will get 551 and if it makes 9g bullets, you will get 549
If it is the second machine, you will get 552 or 548
If it is third machine, you will get 553 or 547
and so on
You just need to weigh once and you know your faulty machine.

Clear?

By the way, I like this thread the most. Something to ignite your logical part of your brain..thank u daggyone for starting it..

So lets move on to the next question..
