rohaan: Louis XV (just prior to Marie Antoinette's reign) was often quoted as saying "Apres mois, le grande deluge"--when courtiers would question him about this, he would say, "We are saturated with comfort. It has to end soon".
But did not the leaders and successors of the revolution 'saturate themselves with comfort'. Robespierre and Bonaparte were as aristocratic as the Kings they so despised, and just as addicted to opulence.
Nikogas: If you are saying the people that were rebelling took on the role of those they despised I know it can happen, I also know that these things can drag on and on for generations,,,,I wonder if we will see the full swing of the pendulum.

Take a look at the French or the Russian Revolutions. Those who led with noble speeches and took positions upon the overthrow of the monarchies became as corrupt, wealthy and exploitative as their predecessors.

Of the people rising up against the selfish tyranny I'm assuming.
"No bread? Let them eat cake (brioche)." Another typical response of the haves to the have nots... when they become so out of contact with reality in their ivory towers, pleasantly oblivious of the starving riff raff who had sweat blood to maintain the royals self indulgent lifestyle.
"I'd spend my time job hunting, but hey...that's me."
If there were any to be had for those who used to work where we used to produce something in the USA, just what sort of jobs are they supposed to do if the American industrial worker is obsolete? Sound familiar?

That may indeed be typical human nature, but that was also what a modern egalitarian government was invented to protect. Respect for all, not just the wealthy and powerful.
ol·i·gar·chy
1. a form of government in which all power is vested in a few persons or in a dominant class or clique; government by the few.
2. a form of power structure in which power effectively rests with a small number of people. These people could be distinguished by royalty, wealth, family ties, corporate, or military control.

The above is often quoted in the negative in error. Look into it and you will find your sentiments are not the case.

From a biblical standing point....Jesus said....."The poor you will always have with you"............
And when his apostles first took to the streets after his resurrection, they did not give money to the poor. They healed the sick and lame in his name. But they did not go out giving the alms to the poor.
From that am thinking that the entire concept of simply giving money to a improverished person is defunct. You only give him some gingle in his pocket, but nothing in his heart. Nothing that feeds him eternally. Nothing that really changes his/her circumstance or his/her views on life.
You say give him a job. Corporation owe people employment. We have a number of laws that make the work place and hiring fair and equal to minorities, to women, to every social group in the country. That was mostly covered in the civil rights acts of the 60s.
So do they really protest for jobs? I don't think so. If so just go out and fill out more employment applications if that is the case. If you are denied one because of your race, religion, social group....file a court case.
What you have in these small protest.....the most that they had attend protest in NYC......was 5,000. Amazing how a camera can be focused into a dense mass of a small number of people to make it seem like 100,000+ are there......)).......is the core of American liberalism.
That is all there is.....the rest are mid road DEM, blue dog DEMs, IND, REP, Conservative Christians....all 308m of US.
Someone sure inflated that number that 19% of the country is liberal. Because if that be a number was accurate.....55.4m should be on the streets in protest over American capitolism. And they ain't there to support this core group of American liberals.
DEM leaders have taken claim to the movement....according to one article I read. They see it as a balance to the Tea Party. That is fine, fine, fine with me. Because the ideas that are going to come from these far left liberals...is going to tell the rest of the story.

Are you really living in the USA? I am, I have many friends that have been trying to get work very aggressively. I think my one friend who just came back from Viet Nam finally found a part time job and temporary at that. Hiring is not fair and discrimination is all over the board. BTW this is not a religious thread. Thanks for your input but I myself wonder if you are talking about the same USA that I live in.
time4fun4u: I like that Pat.Can you include "learn how to make cars and motorbikes that go around corners?".
And Spain has a great potential as so many Americans are speaking Spanish these days, and as I remember Spain was a pretty nice place to be. gotta keep all the options open these days. ;-}
It was hard enough just being a passenger in Dublin with all the roundabouts....in Portland we might have a few...but nothing like I saw there in Ireland. ;-}
Nikogas: Thanks to all that have contributed,,even Freddy who got his feelings hurt and started his own thread, just for the record, I asked him if he was serious or just kidding around. he ignored me and before I could talk to him he chose to lash out in other ways. I hope that people understand that I am not here to ban people from expression, I am here to keep the thread from becoming a sideshow though. Thank Again. and Freddy, have fun,,and like I said, I just wish you would have listened and responded. Nikogas
I have been reading all the comments with great interest Nikogas. Well done for starting this much-needed thread. And also very well done for how maturely & graciously you tried to deal with Freddy. I'm not expecting your reply on this particular point, but he really did seem cynical. Mistaking 'realism' for cynicism. I could agree with him that the 'productive' shouldn't have to share all with the 'non-productive', but that's still only true to a point. The rest of his contribution just seemed to be sneering, and overally downright demeaning of anyone who intimated the slightest semblance of social or moral fairness. You did the right thing Nikogas. Just, my, humble, opinion.
And as for number 10, if you think the British accents are bad, what about Tom Cruises Irish accent in Far and Away? The worst Irish accent ever! It was unbelievably funny!
this page or the last one depending where this falls is basically gone. Pat, I hoped you had something to offer besides comic relief, And not just Pat. I really hope to see some input on the actual topic of this group "Occupied Wall Street" Cities across the nation have had a taste of the protests, does anyone have any new information on that? maybe it is done. I just have a feeling that there is more to come from this group,, maybe even a different group. To all those who have shared real and serious concerns and/or comments I thank you whole heartily. for the long or continuous jokes maybe a special thread for those, standup comedy maybe. but definitely elsewhere. Thanks Nikogas
